Default Gypsy Queen rebacking

Posted By: Ed Shapiro

Hi.
I recentley acquired a stripped Gypsy Queen that I'm considering rebacking. Then again, I may just keep it in it's stripped form in a screw down -- the front is in ex condition. Anyway, since I never examined an intact Gypsy Queen in person, my question is: are Gypsy Queen backs identical in all respects (color, size, thickness, and texture) as OJ backs? Also, is there particular glue that should be used for this purpose. Or is it just stupid to even consider such a task?

Default Gypsy Queen rebacking

Posted By: Tom Boblitt

there's anything different than the normal OJ backs.....couple of different approaches.....you could buy an actress card and use the backing on that to reback your Gypsy Queen card or I've used the old Newsboy cabinets to reback OJ's and trim down to the right size. Unless you're highly skilled (which I'm not) they are easily spotted from a complete, unaltered card.

Value-wise, I don't think it would significantly increase nor decrease your card but for aesthetic purpuoses, you might like it better. If for re-selling you should completely disclose that fact although anyone bidding on a Gypsy Queen would most likely be pretty knowledgable of the cards. Good luck!
