Default Ullman "Art Frame" Postcard questions

Posted By: Glen V

According to the 2007 SCD, the Ullman postcard set consists of 12 members of the '05 Champion NY Giants. They are dated 1906, although they could have been made as early as October '05.

I just picked up an Ullman postcard of the '06 Champion Cubs. Obviously this couldn't have been made until late in 1906, if not '07. Any guesses on why a NY company would add a Cubs team picture to their set of NY Giant players? Or why they would produce the Cubs card well after the rest of the set (unless they waited until the late in the '06 season to make the Giants postcards, which would seem strange too)?

Are there other postcards that haven't been reported to SCD? Wouldn't it seem logical that there would be a team picture of the Giants, or maybe even some individual Cubs players???

Also, the "art frame" is either brown or green. Is there any significance to that? Different printing runs/years? Is each player found with both color frames? Just curious. Thanks in advance for the responses.

Default Ullman "Art Frame" Postcard questions

but I'm just as much in the dark as Glen. When I acquired my Cubs card earlier this year I thought it to be unique not having ever seen one and not having seen it catalogued anywhere.Seems now that there are two and Glen your's is in better shape than mine.

As late as 2001 the Standard Catalog listed only 6. The list has been expanded since up to the 12 with new additions. I have 9 of the 12 missing only the Donlin, Henry Mathewson and Gilbert. All of the catalogued 12 are known to actually exist.

8 of my 9 are green borders. Wiltse is the exception. The 3 I do not have are all confirmed green borders. I've seen all of my 9 in brown with the exception of McGraw. I have never seen another McGraw.

Timewise I think Glen is right. Could be late 1905 though I am more inclined to attribute them to 1906. Some of mine are posted though as I sit here don't have the dates. I'll look them up tonight and if I have anything to add I will. I will say that had any of mine bore a 1905 postmark I think I would have remembered it.

Finally, I have never seen a Giants team and am inclined to think it doesn't exist.
