OJ quest has come to an end for me..

As some of you may have heard,regrettably my quest to get 1 of each Old Judge player has come to an end mainly for financial reasons. Over the past few years I was able to put together 450 different players out of the possible 500 or so(not including Cal league).It's been a fun journey and I'd like to thank a few people who really helped me out, most notably Jay Miller, Richard Masson and of course the "King of OJ finds" David Levin.The 450 different will be featured in Mastro's upcoming August auction and will be broken down into 56 lots...so bid early and often
It was a very difficult decision for me but we are building a new home and this will help greatly.
Thanks also to all the other board members that helped out.
To clarify,this is not goodbye by any stretch of the imagination as I'll still be bidding on lots of other vintage cards.

Your OJ collection for a new home...somehow that doesn't sound like a fair trade. Even though you will no longer have the collection, I'm sure you will remember the process of collecting the cards, one by one.

In collecting, it is truly the journey.

Have you tried to build a house of cards from that stack you have? I bet you could get something pretty nice going. Just don't ding the corners...

Sounds like a great collection. The one good thing that can come out of this is that some those cards are Detroit players that I need, or desire.

Fred..at this point I still have about 100 OJ's but will probably sell them off in the future.

Alan --as William Shakespeare wrote " Parting is such sweet sorrow" . I hope you will keep one card and hide it in your home ---where only you know where it resides --that will always remind you of your accomplishment and someday you will be back at it again and have the one card headstart.!

Sorry to hear it Alan, you did well with the OJs in a relatively short time period. You were certainly at the point where adding new players was becoming more difficult and expensive. I'm surprised at some of the cards you obtained and some that you didn't, just the way it works out.

I too will look forward at helping you fund the new house.

Fred..My set is listed on SGC registry where you can see the 450 different players that will be in the auction. Hecker will be in a group of about 10 Louisville players.

Joe..I don't have the breakdown in front of me, but I can tell you the following...
There will be single card lots as well as group lots of HOF'ers, Spotted Ties, Browns Champs, tougher cards and high grade cards.There will also be team lots like Maroons and Louisvilles.
There will also be lots of managers and portraits.
Finally there will be three large lots of about 90 cards each of the lower grade "commons".
