Amazing how well the card's history was known at the time of its printing.

...Wagner auction ever because of the scan of the back. I can't believe the seller offered that. I'm trying to understand why.

I would be half tempted to bid on it and then file a fraud issue with Ebay after receiving it.

I reported it as a fraud attempt. Obvious reprint, not stated in auction. Others should do so also.

him to do his research before listing cards like that and he responded with "my research is what it is, my father left it for me when he passed, take it or leave it, 5 grand"

well, we should all jump on it since his father passed....(passed gas maybe)

hard to believe that his father didnt tell him that his card was worth $0...both my kids (12 & 9) know where to take my cards when i die....Mastronet

I love when seller's get offensive when they are incorrect.

Why do relatives always leave forgeries and reprints?

Why don't relatives ever leave single signed Bob Feller baseballs and/or chewed up versions of Red Ames?

How long does it usually take (if it takes at all) for action to go through and eBay removes this 'stupid' piece before a stupider person bites?

Never reported anything, just curious.

Also, I highly recommend the Board watch 'The Ebay Effect' on CNBC (I believe, check your local listings) tonight. It's ninety minutes and it's actually quite fascinating.

Someone on the CU board -- I saw it for another thread, I don't read it on my own -- had a good suggestion for reporting fraud through ebay. Copy and paste the item number into the search window for ebay australia. At the bottom of item descriptions for ebay australia, there is a "Report This Item" link. It streamlines the reporting process. I'm not sure how successful it can be, but it seems like a good idea...

I also wrote to this thief and here is his reply:

"I know this card is a reprint, never said it was not. It is a reprint recopy from original card."

Is this an idiot/thief or what?

That's absurd. Even if he describes it ten times in the item description as a reprint (which is ten times more than he did), it's in violation of ebay policy unless the item title identifies that the listing is for a reprint. Why if I didn't know better, I'd think the phrase "1910 baseball card" was meant to indicate a baseball card from 1910.

Anybody notice the bidder?

Being an 'eBay addict' as I am, I do notice the bidder. The bidder specializes in 'high bids' on amusing phony 'grafs.

I highly suspect that this transaction will go through but I bet the seller is probably making a list of things to obtain with his newfound riches. Seeing it was so easy, next week an Aunt will leave him the remaining pieces that allude most T206 collections.

Mr. Simon, you contacted the seller? Have you come over to the cardboard side?

edit to add: Okay, I went to www.ebay.com.au and found Honus there:

T206 collector, I suggested that same thing. Actually, an easier way to do it is just pull up the auction then type ".au" after the .com in ebay.com and it will still show up. No need to copy paste and all that other mess. By the way, I reported him as well!

Julie, actually it's just part of the matrix (the movie) symbolism about knowing how "deep the rabbit hole goes". you report the fake by using the method I listed above. Once the page reloads go to the very bottom to the "report this item" link.

My dad's still alive and I already know he put all of his baseball cards (including Babe Ruth cards) on his bicycle frame so it would make a "flickering" sound when it hit the spokes! Stupid kids!

Honus is STILL up with three days left.

The bid was retracted by the seller.

stopthebadautos (private) Retracted: US $6,500.00
Explanation: Cannot contact the seller

I doubt anyone is that dumb to believe this is the real deal.
