Thursday at the National, I visited Net54 member Taxmechanicks' (Glenn) table, and picked up an 1887 Buchner Gold Coin card of Doc Bushong. Leaving behind that Scrapps tobacco card of Bushong that I still remembered. I think my reason for choosing the Buchner Gold Coin card was #1 it was older #2 I liked his picture in the catchers gear.

Back at the hotel Thursday night, I regretted not purchasing the Scrapps tobacco card, and planned on hitting up Glenns table first thing Friday to purchase the Bushong card I left behind. Thankfully it was still available.
Nice. A couple weeks ago I sold an N172 Doc Bushong on ebay to his great grandson. I wonder if it was the same guy.

Congrats Scott! And that Crawford CJ is unreal!

Had some fun opening up my PSA submission this morning. Most of these are recent pickups. The Carey is a card I've wanted for a long time and actually got it from a BST want to buy post. Thanks again to the board member who sold it to me!

Started this month with the '33G Ruth, and then pile this one into the mix. If this month continues at this pace, the September pickup thread will include a new apartment for when my wife kicks me out!

It's not a high-priced item like most on this thread, but I'm thrilled to have it. Scoops Carey attended the same school that I did.

Picked this up on N54 from pre1960sets. My first copy!

Marking Another Off the Most Wanted List

That's one hell of a start Scott - congrats. Technically not this month, but this is a recent pickup for my HOF portraits.

Great Wagner, Scott

You and I are going after 'big dogs' this month...but, I'm ahead of you as I already have the place to myself.

Lordy, she certainly would have bought a lot of fancy shoes by now and thrown these two little pieces of cardboard in my face to justify them.

Default Third of the way there!

These five pushed me to 33% of the way to 1936 Goudey's 176-card front/back master set. Not bad, as far as hopeless quests go. :-)

Ryan love the Lajoie. One of my all time favs! Hope to own one someday.

Dan that's one sweet Cobb T205! Another one I'd like to own

And Jeff and Orly really dig that Cobb PC. The design really sets it apart from anything else in that time period.

This ain't pre war but picked up another card from the good folks at Red Zone. Trying to nail down all the great one's RC cards.

Actually, according to a couple members in that thread, the card was an issue. But I hope they're wrong, and that you enjoy your new Cobb/ Lenox. I think that's a great card.

And I hope that we never have another carnival sideshow like that thread.

Ah yes, that's why I took the card to the National and had SGC check it out. They said there's absolutely nothing wrong with the card and they stand by their initial grade.

Aaron, when we had our all-too-brief reunion at Tom's table, and I snagged a T206 Cobb bat on PSA3, a card which had become my National Quest, you quietly pulled the red bkg Lenox Tyrus out of your back pocket About all it lacked was a brown Lenox back, which probably is impossible anyway. Man, did Red Zone have some Cobbs and that set of '14 CJ's was tasty. When I thought you were going to buy the Jackson, I had to walk away. Keep in touch.

Here's a cool one. It's a 1944 Snapshot of Joe DiMaggio taken in Honolulu, Hawaii during WWII when he was playing for the 7th Army Air Force Baseball Team. Thanks Stephen!

That's an awesome photograph. My grandfather served in the AAF in the Pacific Theater but he couldn't hit as well as Joltin' Joe, so he saw a little more action.

Jumping in with Dan. Don't want to get left out of the potential Gehrig exhibit type run up on this one. Plus it's just a cool looking card with the white borders and b/w photo..not to mention the cool loaf of bread on the back. Jackie says: "I get a double play in Homogenized Bond. It tastes grand and packs plenty of energy."
Jackie most definitely never said that. lol

Decent card AJ!!! 😆. Seriously though, great pickup. Not sure about the Gehrig Exhibit style run but a '51 Bowman Mantle run in the short term seems fairly reasonable and if not you have the true RC of possibly the most influential athlete of all time. Win, win

Well we all can't have SGC 4's. :-)

Had no idea this card existed until earlier this week. That's why I love reading these boards!
