This should be in Tuesday's mail. Pretty good pitcher from what I've read, 177 wins, three no-hitters. He hit the Cubs first grand slam, not bad for a 5'4" pitcher

Default Portland and Philadelphia

The 1913 PCL pass has a note signed by the club owner, W.W. McCredie, in the upper right. The 1918 pass is notable because Portland was booted from the PCL that year and played in the Pacific Coast International League (unlike the 1913 pass, the signature on the 1918 pass is secretarial). More early Portland material is within the first 15 galleries at http://www.sportingoregon.com/f586168153 . Open a gallery, click show all at the bottom, and click on an image for a closer look and description. For more like the two Philadelphia postcards of Ed Plank and Claude Derrick, see the other galleries on that page, especially the Unusual Postcards gallery.

Default Last night's pickups

Thanks to Lee H for selling me the 1909 Obak Hogan with color missing. It will be a nice and unusual addition to my set. Thanks to Jason for selling me the Meagher and to Joe for the Jolley. The rest were eBay pickups.

Picked this up this afternoon. Busy afternoon on the BST with the orange T210 Hooks and the E98 blue Evers from Mike H. Thanks to both guys for helping fill holes in the collection. The blue Evers puts me closer to an E98 master set since I had the orange, red and green.

Default n172 Bradley

Thank y'all. I mostly bought it for the sharp photo, but Bradley did have an interesting career. Winning 45 in 1876 and losing 40 in 1879. In today's game they say you have to be a very good pitcher to lose 20 games in one season.

Picked up a couple Cracker Jacks... The Cobb has some obvious condition issues but has great color and clarity and was a affordable for a Cobb CJ.

Anyone here win this from HUNT last night?
1909-1911 M101-2 Sporting News supplement Ty Cobb and Honus Wagner

I know one like this sold earlier this year around Feb in a auction house for nearly 1k..i place a bid of around 800..and left it at that..well it sold for 866
I was really hoping to catch a great pre-war piece of 2 players i enjoy to have.

My best pickup from Sterling last night, and for how tough it is, I was pretty happy with the price!

Are the 350 backs tough in general for HOFers or is Chance a toughie? My Cobb bat off is a 350. Maybe I lucked into something?

Sovereign 350s with the apple green backs are much tougher than their forest green Sov350 counterparts, but what makes this Chance Yellow portrait a little tougher is the fact it is 1 of the 6 superprints in the T206 set. I believe, however, that it is not as difficult as finding a super print with Sov 460 reverse.

Some great reads:

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=144282

Thread specifically speaking on the difference between Sov 350/Sov 460 for the 6 super prints:

One covers the life and baseball career of Dots Miller, who was mentored by Honus Wagner as a rookie for the 1909 Pirates, then became a mentor for a young Rogers Hornsby. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CV633PNT The other has 13 short stories of players who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the regular season, but never played in a game for the team https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CY574YNS
