Default Is This a Ghost Print (T206)

Posted By: Brian H

I just got this card back from PSa. I was expecting a MK for the Bluish color lines in the bottom right hand side of the card.
I am thinking it might be a ghost print because the lines extend into the White border under the picture.

what do you think?

BRIAN - A "MK" qualifier is for a pencil or pen mark that someone added after the card was produced. The qualifier that you might have rec'd is a "PD" which is Print Defect. The original submitter may have chosen "No Qualifiers" so instead of a PSA-4pd, it was assigned a straight PSA-3 grade.

Ive collected t206 errors in the past and wouldnt consider this a ghost.I cant tell from the scan whether its actually a print defect or a mark made by pen/marker but i would not call it a ghost by any means.A ghost would be a card with the image of the same or other player somewhere on the card where it shouldnt be.Ive seen all types of this ranging from front to back of card, and next to the player or upside down.

www.t206museum.com has pictures of what is recognized as ghost cards.I also consider cards that have backs reversed on the front to be ghost cards, and they also are referred to as wet stack cards by error collectors

As far as I can tell, real ghosts take a few different forms:

1. Wet ink transfers from the front of one card to the back of a card stacked on top of it during printing. The ghost is on the back.

2. One color layer is so badly mis-registered that it appears as a separate image. This could be offset or upside-down. It also could be a different player.

Your card has neither of these, but instead could be a vaiation of #1 but where wet ink transferred from the back of one card to the front of one under it when stacked during printing. This is just a defect.

What is the back on this card? You could look a the back (especially if it's blue) and try to find this pattern. Remember that it will be a mirror image.

So, no MK is due, which to me is a kiss of death on quality. This is most likely a minor print defect, which (maybe) was factored into the grade.
