Default New Coachs Corner Any bat experts here?

New Coachs Corner is up (I guess Grey Ghost is taking a five day weekend) but there is always something in it that makes the cartoon eye balls pop out with utter bemusement and in this case, it's lot 3 John Clarkson hand signed "Morales" Certified vintage baseball bat! You have to read the description:

This next-to-impossible to acquire, vintage baseball item is a VERY old brown baseball bat that comes to us in VG+/EX condition. It has obviously been well taken care of over the past 125 years, and with good reason, because it features a barrel signature in black fountain pen ink by the great HOF righthander, and one of only two pitchers in history to win 50 games in a single season. The signature grades a legible 8.5, includes an 1885 inscription, and is fully certified by court-qualified forensics examiner Chris Morales. The man died 101 years ago, and if a BALL from his is valued at $50,000, imagine what this vintage bat will bring!

Here's the link: http://www.myccsa.com/Lot/207/john-c...eball-bat.aspx

It is one of the more amusing things I have ever seen from their archive of comedy, but putting all the laughter aside, how difficult is it to find a bat that dates 1885 (as John so eloquently dated it so it can end up later in such a wonderful auction like this), and what do bats like this sell for, unsigned?

I'm not planning on taking the Dry Erase here as I doubt it dates that far back, just curious for my own knowledge.

Another two more Mathewson balls, Wilkes Booth cut and you get the idea. They sell the same things, do they just have a templet?

Thank you,

Larry

you would think they would have a better picture of the bat, not just a picture of a 2 inch portion of it

A crystal clear signature on a 125 year old bat, without the slightest bit of fading. Hmmmm........

The Clarkson Bat might be the funniest one ever (saying a lot!)

No fading to the sig, and no shot of the entire bat. Who on earth would bid?

I agree with FUBAR... showing just a 2 inch portion of a bat like this is laughable (takes almost as much nerve as claiming that auto to be real). Can you imagine REA, Hunts or Lelands showing only that tiny portion in one of their catalogues?

You gotta feel somewhat better about the state of their customers though, because even this hunk o' junk bat doesn't have any bids yet! There is some hope yet!

the first two images you posted there are on the exact same card stock. apparently Jimi Hendrix and John Mcgraw signed at the same time.

Who would buy some well used baseball cap from the 80's??

im thinking that is the old Johnny Canuck logo or maybe a older Edmonton Trappers logo although i don't know for sure

That supposed Paul Waner HOF Plaque is simply horrible. While the Clarkson Bat is just funny, this Waner might simply be the woest executed forgery I've ever seen (this month, anyway...)

Some early favorites of mine..haha.

http://www.myccsa.com/Lot/207/joe-ja...signature.aspx

Only the roaches get such a GREAT shoeless Joe cut.

http://www.myccsa.com/Lot/207/oscar-...eck-piece.aspx

The Boys seem to get a ton of "check pieces"..they must collect em.

http://www.myccsa.com/Lot/207/paul-m...ic-guitar.aspx

One of several Horrible Beatles/Solo Beatles forgeries. AWFUL McCartney.

http://www.myccsa.com/Lot/207/satche...of-plaque.aspx

Hmm. that picture is soooo blurrrrrrrrrrrrry I can't make out the number to verify it. How bout that being the top to a legit Paige and the one in picture being fake? I wouldn't put it past these fraud mongers.

And of course. so many more fake Gehrigs, Matty's, Ruths, Lincoln, Washington. etc etc. But, to wrap it up now..REA? No, Lelands? No. HYee? No, Huggins/Scott? No..what major auction house can have not one. BUT TWO, I say TWOOOOOOO Geronimo sigs in two months? Our POWER FORGER FRIENDS AT THE ROACH'S CORNER. These guys need to be stopped, but we'd miss the comedy too..

5 Matty's including two balls with bold sigs...and certified by a genuine expert. What are the chances? Yeah, I know...and slim just left town.

Coach's Commode and AA are the leading purveyors of stuff, esp AA, that is NOT even close. Plus, took a look at America's Memories again at Mohegan Sun this past Sat night. You got 32999.00 ? If so. you can have a Ruth/Gehrig ball w "ten signatures" on a ball whiter than the white in a box of Ivory snow. They use "Forensic specialists" for their "autographs". Some may be ok, but some are horrible there.

AA is really bad. I think worse than the coach's. At the risk of repeating something, here is the link to enjoy w your Morning Croissant and Coffee.

Click Vintage items for the most fun/worse sickness.

This is one of their worst..also, some of those bats and such look like Roach's. Is this their distributor? Im serious now. But, John Ward and Hugh Duffy "lemon peel" balls (which they don't look like) and Mickey Welch too? come now. but anyways. see this one to be sick..
