Thought we'd give the "Vote" feature a try. I'll let this run through the end of the month and then come up with another idea. Suggestions and thoughts concerning this feature are always welcome.

In other board-related news....the Search functionality is currently acting up for all search queries containing three characters. For instance...."e93". I hope to have this resolved within the next day or so.

Thanks for setting this up, Brian. I'd bet on T206 or Old Judge, although T204 should win .

For those interested, the only other VBC Forum poll was for the mysterious Wagner card in last August's Mastro auction.

I guess with "Other" in second place, I suppose that means that I could have done a better job picking out sets to represent our collecting interests in this poll? t214 is a little obscure but did I overlook a set that really should have been added in?

Bill, good call. The t206s are running away with it. Your Ramly's, just like my e107s are down near the bottom though

Bill, that's not accurate. I did run one poll, but it turned out to be a bit controversial, and i was concerned about reliability of the poll results.

Brian, I think you should have included 1933 Goudeys in the poll, I know that's where my vote went.

1) do you have the poll set up so that no one can stuff the ballot box--=in other words. one man (O.K., person) , one vote?

2) I think with almost everyone having said the N162 was the most "visually appealing," (whatever that means), perhaps you should have included it. Also with all you CARAMEL FREAKS out there, I feel the E90-1 leaves them underrepresented. I mean, what is everyone buying? Caramel cards...

I have nothing against poker (I also have nothing against Dungeons & Dragons and Yatzee), but what the f*ck is poker doing on ESPN and the sports page? Paddy cake is closer to a sport than poker.

I wonder what the thought process is in peoples voting. Are people voting for the set they collect? the set they know the most about? the best looking set? the most popular set? Heck, maybe this could be another voting poll in and of itself! I collect T206s (I know, who doesn't) but I actually voted for the T204s because I love the design!

I voted for the set I like the most. Initially I was going to vote "other" as my all time favorite set it the 33 Goudey. I then assumed that by pre-war you meant WW I soI voted for the T206.

I do collect both sets. But I also think they (esp. the 33 Goudey) are the nicest sets.

I voted for N172 even though I don't actively collect them, I do have a few. I think visually they're very appealing. They offer a true portrait of the players from the beginning of the game as we know it. I personally prefer a real photo.

I think you can only vote once from what I see. I tossed and turned for a whole night about my vote. Do I go with Old Judges, T206's or E107's. While I LOVE Old Judges, I had to go with e107's.

Come on David, Paddy Cake? Why not bring forth the competition of 'Rock, Paper and Scissor' (which does exist) or the fact that when I woke up today, a re-run of an Asian man eating hot dogs was played once again on a loop. Poker is wonderful! Five days of staying up, pyscological warfare, making correct decisions, staying in control and not letting a bad beat get to you!...I enjoy it!

Julie, Thanks for remembering the "Caramel Freaks". Were it an option, I think the E93 set would rank right near the top for me. The images just so perfectly capture the era. As it was, I voted for the T206. Maybe it is not as exotic as some of the others, but who can argue with it? Brian, thanks for setting this up. I hope we do more of these. It is a lot of fun.

People are either voting for the 19th century or the deadballl era, or protesting the absence of their truly favorite set.

I don't KNOW what my favorite set is! Maybe N162, maybe Old Judge, maybe Duke's Honest Long Cut (N142), maybe
Ramly.

Many, many people have said Diamond Stars are their favorite, as well as Goudey. I think of "pre-war" as pre-WW1, but I think the definition for the board is pre- WW2.

If "other" comes in second, it'll be a black day for Shammus!

Thank you all for the feedback. Well, originally I had envisioned this being pre WWI or 1920-ish however I didn't specify so that's my fault. That is pretty much the only reason I left the Goudeys off of the list. However, I think someone asked where the t206 set is and it's actually included in this poll and currently in first place. I tried to take somewhat equal representation from 19th century, tobacco and caramel sets. Representing "Caramels" for instance is the e90-1 set, e107s and Cracker Jacks. Technically, Zeenuts fall into the "caramel class" as well. I also tried to not get too "micro" with the choices which is why you don't see options for such sets as t214 and e93. If I include sets that are a little "less mainstream" like those, then it really becomes difficult to justify which are added in and which are left off.

Unless there is another surge for the "other" catagory, looks like the most popular set on the board is indeed t206. Despite nearly a fourth of you picking "other", this was a lot of fun. I'll come up with some more polls to do in the upcoming weeks.

Thought I'd go ahead and wrap the "Favorite Set" poll up so we could move on to a new one. Looks like the t206 set is the clear favorite with over a fourth of the Net 54 population voting for it. We went ahead and wrapped up the previous poll so we could move on to the new one for "goofiest pose" on a card. The '34 Batter Up set ended up being the most unheralded set in the minds of most board members. Access this latest poll from the upper left hand corner of the main page (same spot).
