Default Jake Daubert help please

a couple of years ago I traded for this Nashville Vols postcard…primarily due to the presence of Hub Perdue and Pryor McElveen

i never paid much attention to the back. is this written in Jake Daubert’s hand?

Given that the inscription says “do WE look like champs” and there isn’t another “Jake” on that team…makes sense. or it could be from a fan. Jake was from a little town not far from Dauphin county PA so it’s possible he had relatives there.

i found an old Daubert signed ball online and the “Jake” looks similar…but really hard to tell. it’s also similar to the “Jake” on the front of his t205.

possible…or just wishful thinking? seems pretty cool even without his last name.

thanks in advance for any help

thanks Jason. i found an earlier net54 thread that had a couple of examples…the “J” and “k” looked similar, but parts of the signature were a little different. this is presumably from 1908, the other example was from 1923. i know my signature sure changed from being a kid to old dude, so maybe…

I think you may be on to something. The card was addressed to a fellow in a town near where Daubert grew up in PA. And the J is exactly like the one in Jacob on his WW1 Draft card, attached.

thanks for posting that draft card. i even think the “P”s on that card look similar to the”P” on the postcard. the loop on the spine moreso than the flourish.

but yeah, the “J” in jacob is really close…and to my admittedly untrained eye, just the flow of the script seems similar

thanks Hondo! that is the picture i found on an earlier thread. that signature is about 12 years after my postcard and a few years after the earlier draft card…but to me the “J”s look very similar along with the general flow of the lettering.

so a secondary question for folks with way more experience on this subject…

the postcard is currently in pretty good shape, but it is fragile …not super heavy postcard stock if that makes sense. I like the idea of encapsulating for preservation. But would this be the type of thing that PSA would “authenticate”?

not sure i have ever seen items authenticated where the “autograph” was just the person’s first name…and I’m not sure anyone cares if it’s not a full name? cool item, but perhaps not valuable enough to spend the money to authenticate?

it might be worth it just for oreotextuon so i could display it better with other Daubert and Nashville Vol items. just curious what folks think

The lowercase "r"s are completely different. As are other letters. I'd have to say, no. Not Daubert.
