Default 1972 #791 Cey Williams Ogilvie Hoarder

I've noticed in the past that COMC user had a bunch of "SP" card of the Rookie Stars containing Ron Cey, Bernie Williams, and Ben Ogilvie. He currently has 174 of the 180 or so available on the site.

Doesn't really make any sense that he's pricing them all at $40 and they're all for sale. That means he's paying $1.74 a month just in storage fees at a penny a card. He could keep 5 for sale, the others in his inventory unpriced, and have the same chance to sell the cards.

They need to up the storage fees or something to motivate sellers to actually sell. Between the museum prices and not being able to search for newly listed cards I rarely go there anymore. When you can easily find super old 6 digit item #s you know they have tons of overpriced cards not moving anyplace.

They have increased storage fees for cards priced over $50, based on the list price of the card. They have also made higher fees on cards sold during sales for ones that are heavily overpriced (aka fake 90% off sales).

I think a lot of the consignors have died, and that's one reason that they still have cards for sale at $8 each when there are a hundred on site starting at 37 cents. I have talked with them on the phone multiple times about checking on those port owners and seeing if they need to be liquidated for an heir or passed down to someone else in the family. Sure COMC would sell more if the prices dropped, but they must be making thousands monthly on people that have cards priced at $8 for years, while their competitor is selling a better conditioned one of the exact same card for fifty cents.

For example, 1972 Topps #103 checklist.
https://www.comc.com/Cards/Baseball/...cklist/1841912
100 raw cards (presumably EX or better) priced from 31 cents (or 56 cents if you're logged in without Advanced Resellers Mode turned on, or probably $1 if you're not logged in). 43 are priced above the 75 cents free storage fees threshold, along with 23 more in the VG-EX bucket, and 11 more in the Poor to Fair buckets. Not even including Dean's Cards, which likely has some other storage fee threshold. So for those 200+ of the same checklist, they're getting almost a dollar from their consignors for cards that have little to no chance of selling. Now some people (like me with 20K cards for sale; we pay $50 monthly for the privilege) get free storage up to $2.50, but the point remains. Dead stock is lining the pockets of COMC on a monthly basis whether or not those cards actually sell. COMC has become a dumping ground for off-grade vintage that will never sell, and millions of worthless Upper Deck ePack cards.

An embarrassment of riches with a ridiculous sales strategy.
