Fwiw, I have only an anti-answer in that I have had sharpies let me down with bad autos a couple of time, even when new. The only ones that really hurt were a Will Clark (just a bad sig when I would have liked to have had a good sig) and a bad transfer on an Italian basketball card of Mike Dantoni.

I have had a lot of nice signatures with the new Sharpie Black Extreme .. fade resistant. I signed my name on a card and put it in a case and left it in direct sunlight for a year. card was almost blank but signature held up 100%. I have a friend who had a Devils Jersey signed and he has washed it twice and signature is fine.
