Default Question about Hartland Statues

I have an Eddie Mathews Hartland statue that I was selling at my brothers consignment booth at a local antique shop. I have it at $65.00. The owner called my brother and said a gentlemen examined the statue very carefully and said it should be priced higher at between $100 to $125. The reason is because he said this was a first casting and not a third cast.

So my question is, does this sound accurate? How can you tell the difference? What else can be told about the casting of these statues?

Thank you,
Robert

Yes, if indeed an original, then $100 - $125 would be a more appropriate price. This is assuming no chips/cracks/repairs/scuffs/yellowing or touch-ups. If it has visible flaws, then you may want to keep it priced as-is.

Good luck!

Yes it is an original from the 1960's (I am not sure what year they were made). It is not the 1990's remake. It does not have any cracks or chips, but is yellowed a little and some of the paint may be faded.

Does anyone know what he means by a first cast and not a third cast? Do you think he was referring to the 1990's and the second or third casting?

Thanks again,
Robert

Yes- the first (original) castings were from late fifties through early sixties. Then the 1990s 25th Anniversary remakes. Then lastly, the current releases.

That's likely what he meant by 3rd Cast. Considering the slight yellowing/paint fading, I would price it under $100, to give it a better chance of selling. $95 or $99 sounds about right for that one. Mathews is among the most common, as you probably already know.

Thanks for the info. I did not realize there is a current release. So I guess he does mean the first cast for the 1960's and the third cast for the current release.
Thanks again for the info.

How about his guy? Is there a market for factory rejects/errors? This one has red rather than blue sleeves and no paint on the numbers and logos.
