Default Summer in NYC

The highest temperature ever recorded in NYC is 106 degrees, set about 75 years ago. Today it is 102 and rising, and there is a chance that we might hit 107 and set a record. Man, that is hot! I know the southwest gets higher temps but we don't.

Looks like the record of 106 is safe. I've heard both 103 and 104 as our high today, not sure which one is correct.

At 9:30 this AM I looked at my indoor/outdoor thermometer as I was sitting at the kitchen table reading my newspaper-----117.9° (backyard sun) here in RI!

That the highest I've ever seen my thermometer go!

my car temp read 103 F today. Hottest I've ever seen it go. And I'm along the coast here in Southeast Connecticut. Somehow I managed just fine w/o AC in my car, but probably 9 out of 10 cars had their windows rolled up (mosty city driving).

Default 21 and counting

We hit 21 days straight triple digit temperature today and 27-28 in total. It's starting to suck....

My car temp, when parked in the sun a few weeks ago read 126 degrees. I laughed. I don't know if it was that hot in there, more likely the sun hitting a sensor or something, but it was REALLY hot.

Default Heat

I know the heat is wreaking havoc in a lot of areas in the U.S., but oddly enough here in Vegas it seems to be one of the milder summers so far. I mean, it is hot, but not as bad as some summers have been.

I know the heat here is different, a drier heat- which is far better than a humid heat. Humid heat is the worst.

Well it hit 104 in the city, tied for second highest ever recorded, and Newark went to 108, perhaps the highest temperature ever in the northeast.

Leon- I know how hot it's been getting in Texas, this summer is certainly one of the worst in memory. It's causing terrible droughts, fires, etc. Can't wait until the autumn, always my favorite time of the year.

Yesterday, we hit 101, not a record, but certainly hot for the mountains of Maine.

Got caught out hiking on a cliff face trail in Coastal Maine in 100+ degree humid weather on Friday. Nowhere to go but up and then down a sun exposed ridge back.

Not one of the brightest things I've ever done, but I was determined to do a certain trail I might not have had another chance to do for years.

I couldn't drink my water fast enough and thought I might pass out from heat stroke a few times. Luckily I kept my wits about me and made it down, safe but exhausted.

It has been quite a mild summer in Northern California. Mostly in the 70's. Actually, the record for precipitation in June was broken by a lot. There have only been a few days in the 90's.
