Default Help understanding the rarity of T213-3 with Overprint

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing a little research on the T213 Coupon Type 3 set. I understand the cards came with 2 different backs. the more common back:

and a rarer factory 8 overprint back:

How rare are the factory 8 overprint backs? specifically regarding the Red Cobb pose does anyone know how many confirmed copies exist? below is the only known red cobb i have been able to find so far with a factory 8 overprint.. i would like to see if anyone knows of another... is the below a 1 of 1?
thanks!

Default Overprint

Hi Jamie, I did a quick search and came up with some info, though it is far from complete.

PSA has graded 1 card - Eddie Collins

SGC does not list any overprints.

Net54 shows Chris Browne with a Chase portrait, trobba with a Chase throwing, and Leon's Heritage auction had a Cobb bat off.

I would love to see some others.

Rick

I believe there are 4, maybe 5 Cobb bat offs but only the one portrait you posted.

A simple search uncovered this previous discussion...

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...ghlight=t213-3

And to answer your question, overprints are MUCH harder to find, many exist only as 1/1 variations as far as I can tell.

I have this Wheat. I look on ebay from time to time for them and will be like 70 or 80 type threes and no overprints.

Default Standard Catalog

The Standard Catalog also lists Jennings both hands, so that makes 27 of 70 cards in the Type 3 set.

Love the type 3's. I don't know if the "70-80" is reflective of the sample though...as about 98% of those are from the same collection...and seem to be priced in the card museum range. Quick look at the sgc population...with about 270 slabbed...would 10% of type threes being overprinted be a reasonable guess?

I'm up to 7 total cards now (no overprints)...a long way to go.

I have a couple of blue Chase's that Chris is really interested in. It's a ongoing game we play....trading blue Chase's to each other.

Anyhow, since I'm such a considerate dude, I will not tempt Chris to break up his COUPON "5-some" .

I had some bids in on the REA lot that Jim referenced w/ the Factory 8 back. I was bidding b/c I needed all 3 of those cards toward the T213-3 set. Regular T213-3's are difficult to find with the factory 3 designation. With the factory 8 back as a goal, you might look for a long time for a specific card. I don't have any Factory 8's b/c they go for a premium to type collectors. I wouldn't consider a back run incomplete w/o the Factory 8 back, but it would be fun to have.

On a side note, I still need Greminger, Hickman, LaPorte & Rhoades to complete the T213-1 set...Ted, I can send over this T213-2 Chase Buffalo as a finder's fee, if you can help find one of these remaining four cards... Will also trade lopsidedly with anyone else who has one of these. Thanks, Rob

Rob

I have hit a "brick wall" regarding 1910 COUPON cards lately. I have not acquired any of them in the past year. However, I'll certainly be on the look-out
for any of those last 4 cards you need to complete your set.

Can you please email me...... tedzan11@comcast.net

When you mentioned "seem to be priced in the card museum range," it made me wonder, what is a normal price for a type 3? I have a Bridwell PSA 2 that I bought a while back, it was being listed as a type 2, but when I got it, I realized it was a type 3. I have always wondered what it was really worth, as all I ever see are those museum prices on e-bay. I know it isn't a $750-1200 card, but what would be a fair estimate? Anyone care to give a swag?

there is a fair amount of pricing history for t213-3's out there. really depends a lot on who the player is and how badly someone wants it???? But it seems type 3's in nice shape(vgish) are selling in the 4-500 range for commons...with OP's selling 25% or so higher.

Hi Ed, I guess the obvious answer to find out what it is really worth is to put it in an auction of some kind.

If you intend to keep it and simply want an educated guess I would say anywhere from $100 - $350...I know the range is a bit absurd, but there are so little data points on the t213-3 cards that they are really hit or miss. The actual sale price (if you listed it) would likely fall in the middle, and probably closer to the lower end. However, due to the extreme scarcity of the set, all it takes is a Bridwell fan (or Bridwell back collector) and someone who wants a t213-3 example to get it close to the top end.

Hope that is helpful...Rob

I would say OP's sell for at least 50% higher and often more.

well using your estimates for regular type 3's...I'd agree.

Personally...I have not seen type 3's for sale under 200 each in my memory?

It looked like Ed was talking about a PSA 2 card, maybe you are talking about PSA 3 cards (VG)? ~ could account for our price discrepancy.

What grade are you referring to for not selling under $200?

well honestly i'm not a very grade sensitive collector!!!!! esp regarding an issue as rare as t213-3...if its presentable and intact...it's good for my collection!!!! There have been a load of very low grade t213-3's on ebay for a few years now with very high bin's...one or two of which I have acquired over the years...for closer to $400 each.

Thanks for the answers, guys. I really am just wondering, like I said, I bought the card at type 2 costs, and I know type 3s go for more, so I was just trying to figure out, well really, how good a deal I got. Sometimes I need to pat myself on the back, even though for every good deal I get, I have many more over-paying deals. Thanks again for the thoughts.

While we are it, have shown this before, but here is the only known double overprint...scan is a bit blurry but you get the drift ~ o/p strike in middle of card is actually clear on the card, my scanning skills are not great.

Awesome card!!!!! But me thinks the t206 museum guy who falsified those OM w/overprints may have got a hold of your t213-3 chase and practiced on it!!!!

Hey Rob, it looks to me like a triple overprint.

I'm bumping this thread for the benefit of the new investment group and anyone else who likes Factory 8 overprints.

I can't convince my investment group to pursue these Coupon overprints...damn their intractable investment theories and strategies!
