Default Any Information About 1951 J.D. McCarthy Postcards?

Posted By: Paul

I recently picked up the JD McCarthy postcard pictured below. There are several oddities about it. First, it's postmarked 1951, which was earlier than I thought the first McCarthy's were issued. Second, it's 1/8" larger in both directions than a standard postcard. Third, it has a facsimile autograph on the front that is clearly part of the card design. I had never seen a McCarthy like this. Last, in the credit line on the back, it lists J.D. McCarthy's nickname "Charlie." I've never seen that before either.

Are any of you familiar with this type of J.D. McCarthy postcard? I've only owned a few J.D. McCarthy's, so maybe some of the oddities I've mentioned are quite common.

I dont know much about these cards....

I do have a Kaline with a 1954 postmark that has the exact same design on back including the "Charlie".

I also have a Minoso but it doesnt have the "Charlie" and its postmarked 1955.

Thanks. Are yours slightly oversized (3 5/8 x 5 3/8 instead of 3.5 x 5.5)?
