Default Why hasn't Titus's T206 value been reflected on PSA SMR??

I know this is just a tool that a lot of collectors deem overrated, but it's constantly being updated based upon current sales. I know there are several other commons that sell for significant premiums over SMR, but not like this particular card...

Look at 15 CJs and tell me SMR has any value at all. Or that it tracks recent sales.

I find SMR to be a disappointing publication on many levels. And I say that with extreme hesitation because I hate being negative about anything hobby related. I'm always disappointed with the lack of serious content...every article is just a summary of the top sets in their set registry for whichever issue they are featuring that month. And the price guide only chooses to include some sets every month...but always the same sets.

I just wish the content was more serious. I don't care who has the #1 rated set on the registry for whichever featured issue they are writing about. I'd like to read more about the history of the hobby, interesting facets of baseball card history, etc. And I'd like it if the price guide was more dynamic. So many sets are ignored. Why not change every month which sets are listed?

Probably a little too much whining in this post...

Price guides are relics from a time before the internet; we now have access to historical auction prices. There's a reason that PSA took down the SMR paywall.

Maybe they think Titus prices are a bubble waiting to burst and are showing future values.

It's seems as if PSA updates smr on a set by set rotational basis. While they will make an occassional update to prices on any set it seems like in each issue they pick a few sets where they update many many prices for players in that set. Seems like they havent done that specific set update on t206's in awhile.

Someone on this board once stated that the SMR is nothing more than an advertising tool for PSA. Truer words were never typed.

It's really about the registry and making that more interesting.

Do they still list prices for cards that don't exist? The last one I saw had prices for cards in conditions that weren't in the pop reports.

Love it or hate it the registry stuff is part of the hobby now. We can all dislike elevated prices based on condition (But hardly ever when we're selling )

But the hidden advantage is that a lot of stuff that's in the hobby now might be lost or remain hidden away without the high prices. Would the black swamp cards have simply been kept if they were only worth a couple dollars each? Or any of the other big finds? A handful of times I've been in shops and got lucky buying a small collection when the dealer either passed or the seller passed.

That's a tricky etiquette thing. Only with sellers I've known a long time and only with permission. One was a batch of very nice condition cards about 5 years old. The dealer offered some token amount and the seller passed. Right after he left I just said " may I" and the answer was "go get it" Another was a guy walking in with a couple hundred RC cola cans and asking if they wanted them. To my surprise they just pointed at me and said "We don't but he does". A couple others were where the seller went on an errand for a couple minutes and the dealer sort of presold the stuff to me before they got back.
