Thanks for posting that, Isaac. While I was reading your link it was mentioned on CBS Radio's World News Roundup. I look forward to an opportunity to obtain that DVD.

Pretty sweet. I'm sure if the Yankees pulled it out that Mantle base running play would have gone down as a key moment in Yankee history. As it is, I had never even heard of it before. I know I've never seen anybody else do something like that before.

That's something I could picture Jeter pulling off on somebody.

Has anyone ever seen a clip of the bad-hop grounder that hit Kubek in the throat?

I don't think Kathryn Crosby will be too happy that she was cited in this article.

I just spoke with Kathryn, and she indicated that she is very upset that you drew attention to her mention in this article

When I was a kid I saw that whole game on TV (afternoon game). Barry, I remember that bad hop that hit Kubek in the throat like it was yesterday. He went down like he was shot.
BTW, in 1992 I did a customer dinner with Mickey Mantle as the guest. I asked him about Maz's homer. He said Yogi was playing LF and when the ball went out Yogi just turned, faced the LF wall, and just kept shaking his head. That was what Mickey remembered most about the game.

Jay- I feel like I saw some video of it a very long time ago, but I'm really not sure. That's why I asked the question if that video even exists. That would be a really great game to watch because there were so many dramatic moments, all at the end of the game.

The game was recorded by the major leagues, who made color movies every year of the world series. Lou Fonseca produced them. There is a nice color film of the series, with lots of highlights. But it will be great to see the whole game and especially to hear the gunner doing the first half. Of course, we have the radio broadcast, featuring Chuck Thompson's mistake about who was pitching ("Art Ditmar throws. Here's a swing and a high fly ball hit deep to left. This may do it....").

Game 7 of a World Series--19 runs & 24 hits & they played the game in 2:36! Unbelievable by today's standard!

I agree and was thinking the same thing. That's a 4 hour game today especially if it includes the Red Sox or Yankees.

Barry,

I've seen tape of the Kubek play. I can't recall the name of the film, but it featured commentary by Bob Prince.

Brian,
Detailed highlights of all 7 games are available in color thanks to Major League Baseball's World Series Films, produced by Lou Fonseca. I think that he produced 1/2 hour highlight films from the 1940's through the late 60's.
I had the 60 version on a videotape and later found it on a cd. I thought every Pirates fan had one, along with a green weenie and a babushka.

Yes, I have the 1960, 1971 and 1979 Pirate World Series highlights on the MLB-issued VHS tapes that I bought in the early '90's. Several years ago I bought the entire 1979 WS broadcast by ABC on DVD. Can't wait to see this 1960 WS 7th game on DVD too!

Pitchers worked much more quickly, there were fewer relievers, and because there were no pitch counts teams did not have the strategy of working the pitch count by fouling off pitches.
