Pardon my ignorance, but what makes the "Opening of the Season" postcard so much more valuable than the rest?

Flat out scarcity. Myself and two or three other collectors I know of who have put together a Red Belt set all had to scramble to get the Palace of the Fans card. There were two on eBay in a short space of time last year but otherwise I haven't seen any at all for several years.

ETA: If I didn't already have one I'd be knocking people out of the way to land Jim's card. And you'll rarely see this many Red Belts available all at once.

Very tough to judge price on Opening Day--you mention two were on eBay last year but I see no record of it online or a eBay, if you have links (or anything else to judge price) might be helpful....thanks....

Greg: I looked at my email "paper trail" and it appears that I bought a PotF Red Belt from eBay seller "JudWilson" in October 2012. (I am not going to say what I paid for it because I don't want to interfere with Jim's sale, plus it's an apples-and-oranges thing condition-wise). Whether it is the one I posted I am not sure because over time I have had two but traded one. I am certain there were two available in a short period of time because the underbidder on the card I won turned out to be a hobby friend and I was happy to see him pick up the next one offered.

Thanks for the info David. I wrongly assumed that the Miller Huggins was the most valuable card in the set.

Jim, Sorry to derail your sale thread. Best of luck!

Hi Chris,

No problem. Great question, I've had others ask the same.

Dave is correct, just a very scarce card. You have a variety of collectors after this view, not just Red Belt collectors. This is considered one of the toughest cards for a Stadium Postcard collector to land you also have Cincinnati City Postcard collectors looking for the card. Supply and Demand! Thanks guys for the conversation. Jim
