Default question about a seller on ebay

Posted By: bernie

i guess the question isn't so much about the user (south-florida-heat) because his rating is excellent at 99.9%, but about the t206's he has been auctioning this week. he says they are part of a complete set minus the wager that he is breaking up and that they are all authentic and "believed to be unaltered , but quite a few of them look nearly mint, but don't seem to be selling for nm prices. anyone buy any of these cards yet or are planning on it ? think so of them have been trimmed ? not trying to bring down the seller at all, just want to know what others think of these cards.

FYI:

"THE ASSIGNED GRADE IS BASED ON THE FRONT OF THE CARD AND DOES NOT ADJUST FOR THE BACK."

that plus the fact that he won't guarantee that the cards are not doctored/trimmed.

Default question about a seller on ebay

I've been looking at and bidding on some of his cards. It says that he will not refund on graded cards. I don't see where it says he won't refund if "doctored/trimmed". No refunds on graded cards is legite.

I was outbid last night on the Southern Leaguer Foster.......went for pretty good dough. Some cards do look "to good to be true", but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Good enlargable scans. One can pretty much judge for himself/herself.

He doesn't offer cash refund, but will give discount on your next prostate exam.

If I just graded the front of my T206's they would be at least two grades higher on average than if I also graded the backs. Damn strange way to auction cards.

Default question about a seller on ebay

Got outbid on a Helm last night and won a Nichols. Scans are large enough to know what you are bidding on.
There was a dealer at my local mall selling t206 by the fronts also. Seams a bit strange, because the backs are so important in the t206 set. Any way I picked this up for 50 bucks because he didn't care about the backs. I am sure with the large factory 30 portion at the bottom it would have went for a bit more. To bad he didn't have any rare backs.

Default question about a seller on ebay

Posted By: David Poses

I got outbid on most of the lots i bid on. i'm trying to assemble a raw t206 highlander set, so if the cards are trimmed but don't look ridiculous, i'm ok- some of them, however, are short or uneven. one corner on the warhop that closed last night was a dead giveaway- looked like the top was cut at an angle. while some of them may not be trimmed, that so many are so blatant would make me nervous if i were bidding with the hope of getting a numerical grade. there was a seller a few months ago with similar-looking t206s- he mentioned that some cards "may have been trimmed."

as obvious as some trim jobs are, i try to take people's word at face value. i bought a card from a very reputable seller a few months back- a 1940 playball common- for about $4. didn't mention that it was trimmed, it didn't occur to me that it had been trimmed- then i sold the card on ebay a few weeks ago and the buyer was convinced that it was trimmed. card sold for $2.99, so i refunded him and told him to keep the card. my point is that even though many of south-florida-heat's cards look suspicious, based on his feedback, he might not be purposely deceiving people, but that's just one man's opinion...

Steve - it seem syou know the seller. Is he knowledgeable enough to know that he'd get more for the cards if they were numerically graded? If so, why did he not submit them?

Default question about a seller on ebay

To follow up on the last post..........if one (or more) of his cards are trimmed, he may not even know for sure that is the case. He may have accumulated these cards over the years and didn't mind if they might have been trimmed. He might not know who had them before or what they did to them. Many of these cards have probably gone through hundreds of hands over the years.
I purchased a raw T206 on ebay a couple of years ago. I sent it into SGC for grading and it came back with "evidence of trimming". I then told the seller about that and he was adament that the card had not been trimmed. He offered me my money back, but I kept the card instead. He had said that he had the card in his collection for 20 years. But, what about the other 78 or so years? Who's to tell.

FYI - I asked the seller last week if he would honor a refund if the cards were trimmed or altered and just received a response:
"ITEMS ARE SOLD AS IS"

Also, maybe somebody with better eyes can chime in, but several of the T206s look to have a vertical mark on the bottom half of the back; of course, maybe there is just a mark on my monitor.
