Default Lefty Gomez HOF inscribed MLB ball value?

I have a Lefty Gomez signed baseball with the HOF 72 inscription. I am considering selling and I am curious how much of a premium that inscription adds to the value. I understand that it is more difficult to find with that inscription. I saw this one https://auction.steinersports.com/mo...e-hof-inscript and assume this sold price is an anomaly? What would be a reasonable asking price for such a ball?

I asked this question a couple of years ago. I just learned that there is a genre of collecting autograph balls with the HOF inscription. Apparently Gomez really is a tough one to find with that inscription. I sold this one to such a collector today for $2800. I have a feeling I could have gotten more. I expect that others here are likely aware of this section of the hobby. Nonetheless, there may be others like me who aren’t necessarily autograph collectors and like me are uninformed.

Hi Mike!,
Yeah, this segment of the hobby, as with any segment, can have high prices depending on how badly the collector needs it. To me, I just can't fork out that much more money (I believe a single signed Gomez ball goes for about $250). I have some balls with the HOF inscription, and many without, but I'm just not so OCD that it really matters anymore LOL.
Congrats on the sale price though. I think you did real well.

Thanks, I am in complete agreement with you. That’s a lot of money for three letters and two numbers added to a ball. It’s actually about $500 for each character. To each his own. I’m using the funds to pick up a beautiful Clemente which I’m sure people outside the hobby would think is insane as well.

Same for me...

I have signed balls with and without the "HOF" inscription. But I would never pay a premium for one... especially to the tune of that Gomez. Just too many other things to buy with the extra money. And often, the "HOF" addition ruins or compromises the aesthetics of the ball.

Many congrats on selling it for the price you did!
