Default How much will the Goodwin Wagner go for?

I saw the preview is up for Goodwin's newest auction and the Wagner is a beautiful SGC 40. How much do you think it'll go for? Possibly $1m?

i would say yes, it has a very good chance, since memory lane wanted 750,000 for a buy it now on a 2 grade wagner, (I realize just because they are asking 3/4 mil, that doesn't mean that is what it is worth.)

no big visible creases, which is uncommon for a wagner, i would think the people with the big bucks would want this one.

here is the grade 2

http://ownitnow.memorylaneinc.com/gallery.aspx?id=540

Here is a paragraph about a previous PSA grade 4 than supposedly went for about 1.5 million so this one for a million or more? I don't know the crossover from SGC to PSA but it does look like a nice one. There might be deep pocket collectors with a psa set registry that wants to bump up their wagner grade, if they have a wagner.

I suppose they would be3 asking PSA what it would crossover to? Otherwise maybe just a deep pocket collector who wants a Wagner for the notoriety of it, and wants to join that exclusive club and doesn't necessarily collect t206's would want to pull the trigger.

One T206 Wagner is now off the market but should be back on the market soon. The one which sold in early January was professionally graded by Collectors Universe Inc. (NASDAQ: CLCT) as “PSA 4″ (scale of 1 to 10) and the card sold for an undisclosed sum. Doug Allen of Legendary Auctions, which helped facilitate that sale, did confirm to us in a phone interview that the sale price was north of $1.5 million.

Curious card.....very weak 3 imo, corners look more like 2's.... i also think that card of Memory Lane got every benefit of the doubt with that grade.

Default Wagner

I would say a $1 million dollars. Nice looking card.

Hey Pete, any way you can change to poll to include what board members think the Goodwin Plank will fetch? That is one of the nicest Planks I've seen in a long time.

Not a VG card IMO. A very nice 2 but not a 3.

I think we were all hoping nobody would notice the Wagner for sale. If we all throw in $20 I bet we could at least put in the opening bid.

Oh yeah, the opening bid thing. That might present a problem.

Default T206 Wagner

with those corners, in my opinion, the rest of the card should be spotless to get a 3....nice eye appeal though which is critical....Bruce Perry

Why is the GAI a joke? It happens to reside in an SGC 40 holder now as well. I have held the card and it is gorgeous!

Hey look, i quoted myself,

it looks like ACA grading has given an 'authentic' label to the controversial wagner.

Let me rephrase that one...a bit high grade wise. The card itself is a beauty.

For what its worth, the second SGC 40 Wagner shown went for 791k in mid 09. Auction

The SGC 40 that sold for $925 a couple of years ago was re-sold last year for over a million.

I think this card will go over 1 mil. I also think the one REA has right now is a much nicer example, and would rather go for that one if I was in the market for a card like that...

I was listening to CBS Radio News this afternoon, on my drive home... 4pm cst... and they mentioned this card and the Plank card being auctioned in St. Louis. National news coverage for Mr. Goodwin's auction. I'm impressed. He has a serious bunch of cards offered this time around.

Who says vintage card-collecting is dying?

Frank, I think we're going to see a board member or two with nice examples of one of the 'big 4', come end of spring (it won't be me).

Whenever I need a good laugh I look up to see what the newest info is on these guys. I couldn't believe it when I saw that they are advertising an ebay auction for it this next month.

If there is a reserve greater than $1...the outcome will be the same...the card will not sell...and hopefully these idiots and the card will disappear.

Or maybe some wealthy benefactor will buy it...so it can be destroyed once and for all!

Any takers?

THAT auction of a different Wagner card would have been better in its own thread, and not here. The Goodwin Wagner card, a nice, REAL card, deserved a thread of its own without that thing being put here... it will be misleading to some folks.
