After weeks and weeks of research, phone calls, more research, marriage counseling, a new friend named "Crown Royal",and just a little more research,I have decided to consign with Mastro. This decision was reached after a painstaking elimination process.
I'd like to publicly thank Barry Sloate who is a true gentleman and a great help.Brian Weisner, who provided me with expert advice regarding all aspects of my collection(besides being a helluva good guy),and David Rosenberg who provided me with some wonderful suggestions regarding the auction process. All of these individuals provide this forum and the hobby a huge bonus. Thanks to all of the other members who provided me with facts, offers of help, and support during this process.
I have grown to appreciate this hobby and the history intertwined with it,and I will remain an active member(just in case anymore cards show up....plus I enjoy the occasional bitching sessions).
Thank you again for everyone's help,Skydash

Skydash, will these be in the December Mastro auction?

Good luck with them....your story will go down in hobby lore as one of the all-time great finds.

It'd be cool if all of the cards and such were graded by SGC, and designated the "Skydash Collection".

Well Skydash - why don't you go help Carmen? She is our new "mini Skydash". You can find her in the b/s/t 20s section.

Edited to add:
She has way lesser cards, so she will need a considerably toned down approach.

While of course there is some personal disappointment, good luck with the collection.

From what you have shown us, your collection will sell for seven figures for sure.

Barry,

You're amazing. If I were in your shoes I would have gone into the corner and sulked.

With your attitude you're going to get other collections.

Peter C.

I had read Barry's comment somewhat differently but your take makes sense as well. Though I don't think it is what he was saying.

I actually spent many hours working on getting all or part of the collection. But I knew going in the odds were against me, as nearly every auction house in the country was pursuing it too. So I tried to take a realistic approach. As such, I am not sulking. Skydash (not his real name, of course) was a gentleman throughout the process and I wish him the best with it.

Sloate's always a prince of a fella.
I suspect that what he acquires or doesn't acquire is not critical or essential to who he is.

best,
barry

Thanks Barry- and while it isn't critical to who I am...it still sure looks nice in an auction catalog!

I would also like to add that Barry was the first person here who answered all of the initial questions I had regarding some obscure cards that had no database. Everything he told me regarding this process was spot on. He is a class act in my book, and his help WILL be rewarded I can assure you.

So.... can someone share a few of the uncatalogued finds? We know of the Thorpe and Jackson, what else?! We're all dying to know!

The only thing I heard of was a Joe Jackson T206 proof, and the others you listed.

Skydash -

Mazel Tov !!!

Will it be in Mastro's December 2007 Premier auction ? Will there be a write-up on your find with your name, etc,... In other words will it be "Collection of....." in pages of the catalog like they did for Nagy, Carter, etc,... ?

Thanks.
Alan

I think it is now up to Mastro to list all of the new additions to the current checklists. I guess we'll all have to wait for the upcoming auctions.

I guess it's okay to say Brian and I were working on this together, so let me thank him publicly for the tremendous effort and time he put into the project. He is a champ!

I'll answer these(my computer time is limited
as I am in Kansas City on a hotel computer)as best I can without any notes to draw from.
1)As far as the uncataloged finds, they are all in the tin top collection, and I think there are around 20-25. Brian could tell you more definatively as I provided him a list, and I am out of town.
2)Alan(Hoy!), I am getting together with Doug on Monday to discuss how this collection will be offered, but as of now we are shooting for a December Premier, and an April Premier split. As far as a name or title for the collection....I don't know as of yet,but when we decide,I will post.Due to privacy concerns, I am going(to try) to remain out of the picture and return to being the master of my domain(sorry Brian....I couldn't resist).
