Default Finally Completed My Class of 1936 Collection!

Posted By: James Feagin

I know it's small potatoes compared to some collections on here, but after a couple of years of being outbidded time and time again, I finally have completed my Class of 1936 collection! The T206 Cobb is an El Principe De Gales back....

Thanks for looking at my minor feat,

James

Very cool. Is it intentional or coincidence that they all come from different sets? At least a few of them could have come from the same sets?

And did you pick the image/set for each player by any particular means or likes, or were you looking for a card for each player without really worrying about which set it was from?

Great Job! And they all present very nicely. The Wagner is the one keeping from the same achievement at the moment.

Joann,

Thanks for the questions. It is no coincidence as I intentionally made sure that the representatives for my collection came from different sets. Here was my criteria

1.) The card had to grade SGC 30 or PSA 2 or better ( I live in low to mid-grade land)

2.) Cards had to be different "types".

3.) I had to really like the image and aesthetic appeal. This involved a lot of research on my part. I then focused on those images and tracking when they came up for sale, all trying to keep within a certain budget.

Now on to the Class of 1937, I do have two T213-2 Coupons of Lajoie and Speaker, just need a Connie Mack

James

James great job!
What's your favorite card of the 5?
And do you plan to work on the next year of inductees?

Congratulations--and what a cool idea. Keeping the type of cards open gives you some flexibility. I really like how you are moving on to the next induction class.

If a collector did collect by induction class I wonder where he would eventually find a player in the Hall with no card to collect? Are there players besides some of the Negro Leaguers that do not have an old baseball card to collect?

Joe

Thanks, it's really hard to determine which of the 5 is my favorite. Gun to my head though...I would say the T206 Cobb EPDG back. I love the pose and it's my favorite T206 advertising back. I have decided to only collect major leaguers who played most of their careers in the twentieth century because with two small children, I most definitely have a budget. Finally, if we are going by the baseball writers I already have a 1937 set and already know which Alexander I want for the 1938.

Thanks a bunch,

James

James: Very cool idea and great card choices. Your thread is especially appreciated since I made the hajj to Mecca just a couple of days ago.

James -- that really IS a cool and novel idea for collecting. Congrats on a fine selection.

David -- do you know what those little plaque-ettes are below Mathewson and Cobb?

Paul: The little plaques indicate military service (branch and war). There is a plaque at the head of the hall that lists all members who served during wartime.
