David Rudd, with all due respect, is it necessary to edit every single post you write multiple times?

I think you are a good contributor to the board, but in my opinion, this is simply ridiculous.

Is there a rational explanation for editing a 5-10 line post more than 15 times in an hour period?

I know some people just don't give a darn about it, just as I did before having to scroll down the strange 19th century photograph discussion thread.

Wonder if you could explain your editing reasons every single time you make one.

It is only bothersome to me when I have made a response and 10 minutes later that response makes no sense because he has completely re-written his post. Other than that I could care less and sometimes I even get a chuckle from seeing a post edited 10 times in an hour.

Could George be waiting for David to respond, so George could then drastically edit his post so these responses seem meaningless?

Don't take it personally Dan. I don't see him participate much in the controversial topics, mostly informational, so I don't see it as a big deal.

i enjoy david's editings, i think he's been on n54 since day one...one of a few early members that still post regularly. kinda like a blast from the past ala a surviving player from the t206 era

edit: if u don't like dr. cycleback's edits, ur not a true n54 member

Please, show some compassion. David has this rare condition, Typing Tourette's Syndrome, or TTS.

I was lucky enough to catch a screenshot long ago, "f*ck Albumen f*ckk assmunchadick Daguerreotype bjiusnoubhosoijbno sh!tty Photogravure sh!tty poo poo..."

is the 'Vile Weed' Broccoli avatar from the Seinfeld episode with Kenny Rogers chicken?

I wonder about David's editing habits but, ultimately, other than just a bit odd, what's the big deal. God knows, it's the ONLY odd thing around here, huh?

Tom, you nailed it! Haha, Didn't take long. On a related but somber note. The missus has decided after nearly 17 years of Seinfeld, every night, it is time to move on*. She says, "I don't even need to use the volume cuz you recite all the lines." I guess I'm no low-talker

*I am still permitted, however, to watch when on nightshift at the station.

Nobody should have to justify his or her editing practices.

Perhaps George should have self-edited before initiating this thread.

Edited to add: The Rockies are down 8-0 in the first inning, which is why I am in such a crappy mood.

Today's my 47th birthday, & my wife bought me the Seinfeld box set (all nine seasons) !

edited to add that I frequently use the edit function too. I'm very sleep deprived, & a perfectionist. That's a bad combination. Also, I think David's cycleback website is a great resource. Thank you!

Happy B'day Paul.....You are a about 45 days older than I am....You old man....
I don't mind David's edits as he contributes more than most others for the good of the board and, though we have never met, seems like a nice guy . Such triviality.....

edited to be apropos and to say that I do see the point about changing the context and then other posts seem out of place...I think that rarely happens.

I've always marveled at the Dorskind Group's spectacular restraint in editing. It's as if they all agree upon exactly what to say the first time around.

It must be a slow night if someone needs to take David Rudd to task for his tendency to edit his posts multiple times. David has been around since the days of the Full Count board, so relative newbies should cut him some slack for that alone.

To be honest, I'd rather read a post that has been edited multiple times and actually makes sense than read one that has never been edited and makes none.

P.S. David - this heartfelt support has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that your father wrote some textbooks for my employer and indirectly paid my salary for a time!

Quan--Now 11-1 Bums. At least it's a three game set.

This was a completely ridicilious thread to have initiated. David Rudd is one of the most knowledgeable people in this hobby, especially when it comes to vintage photos, etc and in spotting fakes. I know he has helped me out a few times in that regards.

Paul- Happy birthday (mine's coming up in a couple of weeks and I will be an ancient 56). I've never seen the Seinfeld boxed sets but I hear they are good for outtakes.

David is a really good guy who spends a lot of time on the board contributing interesting and informative posts. While his multiple edits are a curiosity, he didn't need to be taken to task over it.

But I'm surprised he hasn't responded on this thread. I guess he prefers not to, which I understand.

Does this mean that the original variations of his posts are more valuable; and could it be that he's introducing errors into the market to drive up the price?

Amazing.

In the interest of full disclosure, I overuse the phrase "it is what it is," I sometimes use a semicolon where a comma would suffice and I occasionally put the comma outside the quotes.

I apologize in advance and hope you can still slog your way through my posts.

Al,

I hear you. I never know whether the period goes inside or outside the parenthesis at the end of a sentence (something I do a lot of.). ???

I always try to remember that a preposition is a bad word to end a sentence with!

I always enjoy David's posts. I don't care how many times he edits them.

Isn't the saying "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I shall not put" , (supposedly Winston Churchill)

I find that ending sentences with propositions creates more difficulties.

Tim- that sentence appears to be grammatically correct but so convoluted that it would clearly need to be changed.

At a dinner party a woman said to Winston Churchill, "If you were were my husband, I'd put poison in your tea." To which Churchill replied, "And if you were my wife, I'd drink it."

I'm aware I use the edit function more than others. I have the habit of reading and fixing my posts (rewriting, adding, subtracting, etc). I'm concerned about the final text, not the line of editing denotations that follow a post. It's an admirable habit for a writer, just obvious on a chat board that marks you're edits. If the edit function wasn't there, I wouldn't (and couldn't) use it.

People have commented and joked about my editing, but no one's complained to me about it. I have probably commented and joked about it.

Most people's comments and jokes are not about the editing-- which I think they mostly could care less about-- but the line of edit marks. As this is an aesthetic issue, I am aware of the issue but take it with due seriousness-- which means I don't take it too serious.

George's initial post was respectful and sincere, so I consider it as fair criticism or comment.

Churchill was one sharp-witted man. I really wish I could have hoisted a few pints alongside him.

His best quip is quoted all the time. At yet another party, a lady walked up to Sir Winston and said, "Mr. Churchill, you're DRUNK!". Not missing a beat, Churchill said, "And you, madam, are ugly. The difference is, when I wake up tomorrow, I will be sober!". Perhaps the best comeback ever.
