If you had to write a one sentence "law of collecting" what would it be?

Thanks
Rich

A person can collect whatever he wants, as long as he knows what he's collecting.

Example: There's absolutely nothing wrong with collecting 3 cent postcards, as long as you don't think they are work $300 each. There's nothing wrong with collecting mass produced reprints, as long as you don't think they're rare originals.

In a word "HONESTY"

In a sentence (gee, like we haven't heard this before):

"Treat others how you'd like to be treated."

Defined:

When dealing with other collectors provide the most accurate description possible of the item to be traded or sold. Treat others with respect and courtesy.

There's more but that would take a few paragraphs...

Collect that which you would not regret to be stuck with.

all good answers. Clearly the idea to trade and act fairly when it comes to cards is the predominant message. There is someone in another trading group that I belong to that always closes messages with, "we keep what we give away". A nice tenet to live by.

But my law would be to always remember that they are TRADING cards first and formost.

Although there's some overlap, do not confuse collecting with investing.

That would be the "Laws of Investing" thread... what one sentence or credo would fit best with that particular thread?

"Always set your snipe just above what you think the underbidder will be at..."

1 - Collect something that you LOVE
2 - Concentrate on and enjoy what you currently HAVE in your collection, not what you STILL NEED
3 - Collecting is a HOBBY, keep a proper perspective

Not to become so obsessed with those items I don't have that I fail to properly appreciate ALL the items I do have.

Here is my favorite law of collecting:

I'm not quite sure if I understand it fully, but it evidently made me bid repeatedly in Mastro last night

Approaching my limit,

Max
