Default Koufax rookie $$$ jumping

This card has shot up in value.......I know all rookies are going up but this card in a 7 was just under 2k less than 6 months ago, now I don't think you can touch a decent one for under 3k. I think it still will trend upward settling at about 4k in about another 6 months from now.

The rise of these cards is unbelievable........

I made a more general comment on the main prewar thread. It seems to me that almost everything is getting astronomical and I'll soon be collecting canseco rookies again!

As someone trying to go the opposite way, starting at pre-war and going forward to 50s, 60s, 70s, it has been very difficult to know what to pay for nice HOF'ers/Rookies. The prices are going up and there are so many of them....not sure what to make of that?

Koufax is HoF and iconic. I'm not sure who may jump next.....I don't believe there is that " icon " that isn't somewhat expensive already in a rookie card.

If I were guessing, Bench may be next. Just not sure how much of an icon Bench is. I'd love to say Munson, major media market, Yankee captain, and I think he's got an iconic mystique. No HoF though.

Probably way off base though. No pun intended.....

If I had to guess I'd say Rose will be the next one to jump, then maybe Frank and Brooks Robinson. But yea like Bob said if you find a centered one that doesn't break the VCP record by too much go for it.

I tried that on a Rose rookie 2 days ago. Listed raw as vg and had great centering with a large bottom border. After I snapped it up (BIN) and looked harder at it, it had a partially erased ink mark on back. I had to cancel the sale but it was a great card. I just couldn't pay vg price for a card with a noticeable ink mark which was otherwise vg.

I have to share a story that still bothers me. Years ago I passed on a Koufax rookie for 29 dollars. It was maybe 94 or 95 I never forgot it. As years went on I
I got a nice raw one for 150. I took it to a card show and sold it for 300. It was before my birthday and my wife gave me a go to buy a card from EBay for 150.
So I decided I would upgrade my Koufax . A few days past and I see a 5.5 Koufax rc ending. I bought it for 380. I handed her the money and said put this in the bank I'm buying this card. She promptly lost her mind !! So I canceled the order and she took the money. 😭

I picked up a Koufax PSA 5 years ago for $150. Am I doing well now? I don't follow post-war too much.

Sounds like a good call passing. There are enough out there in that grade range that you can find a decent looking one that hasn't been altered. I would probably have one already if I didn't find the card so aesthetically unappealing.

yes, it was a quick flip for the seller, as 707 had the card listed for $3000 a mere two months ago.

it was definitely a top tier 7, imo.

everyone keeps expecting this bubble to pop.

maybe it will. maybe it wont...

i think it's simply come to the fact that the:

nuttiest presidential election is coming.
stock market sucks.
housing market certainly isn't on fire.
60 minutes just aired a segment last night of an $80mil art scam.
it's not like there are a ton of safe places to park money right now.

what?

are ya gonna stick your money in a cd or money market at a whopping 2%?

look at what's avail on the koufax rc...

it's all 5s or under and all those are mc/oc/pd.

people said the same thing about the aaron 7 a year ago about all the same scenarios. the pricing, the fact that there are so many of them, the surge.
everything.

now they are pretty much all put away.

and there certainly isn't one avail on ebay right now. maybe 4 have surfaced in the past 4 months....

could it be that people have certainly realized that there are really only so many psa/sgc 7s (that are actually worth a ____ ) that are avail or will actually become avail after all of this. again, consider the aaron 7.

maybe the sky really isn't falling.

maybe im wrong.

let's check back in 6 months and see.

Is insurance included in that shipping cost? $40 seems rather excessive.

In terms of investment opportunities being relatively unattractive, there is nothing new or unique about today. I don't think the world has just discovered baseball cards. I think something much more specific is going on, driven by not that many people.

Cards don't double in two weeks, IMO, because of simple market forces. Carry on though.

Mr Spaeth is dead on....Ask around to the major players that sell this high end stuff and see what they say, if anyone would know what is going on they would. They all say the same thing to a person.....

Mr.Spaeth jokes about a "buying gang", that is an excellent analogy...Because that is pretty much what they are.

What will happen when they stop buying this stuff? Prices in my opinion will drop but they will still be way above what they were....

Just my 2 cents, spend it wisely!!!

It seems pretty obvious, but if people want to think it's just competition for nice cards that has an easy card doubling in two weeks, and quadrupling in two months, go for it. I don't believe it, I've been doing this too long and the card market just doesn't do this. In March or maybe it was February I couldn't move a Koufax 7 for more than 1500 to save my life.

I'm puzzled, why the sudden spike in prices? You seem to know more than you've said and I'm very interested in hearing what you have to say on the topic.

ditto.

and a more important question all together is what is this "buying group's" motivation?

price points completely aside.

is this buying group a set of collectors?

a wall street group?

are they doing this for profit or is this group a set of collectors refocusing or what?

not asking facetiously...

curious as to what your thoughts truly are....
