My guess is none of the above, they didn't keep the stat back then.

I'm going to say Bill George (since I had never heard of him before)

Hey- wait a minute, where sacks recorded as early as 1959?

Merry Christmas Frank!

If you are correct, what term was replaced by the sack?

When you can't record a sack, take a dump.

If you are correct, who led the NFL in dumps in 1959?

Same choices.

And was there a quarterback who never took a dump in 1959?

If you are correct that the correct answer is among your choices, I am going with Nitschke because you are a Packer guy. Alternatively, knowing your penchant for trickery, all of the above, they tied.

I'll guess the Monster of the Midway, Bill George. I only vaguely remember watching him play but there are stories about his ability to easily toss linemen aside with his brute strength.

The art of this thread has been neglected.

Nitschke, a quarterback in high school, was a dumpee before he was a dumper.

In my youth I kept records of this stat, before it was fashionable, but I inadvertently dumped those files.

Deacon Jones, who didn't play in 1959 is generally considered the father of the dump, now sack. Retrospectively he is credited with 173 1/2 dumps (sacks), which was head and shoulders above his peers. He was a teammate of Lamar Lundy, who witnessed Deacon's earliest dumps.

Sacks as an official stat are only about 35 years old.

Here"s my {?},Football yearles & football cards have sack stats in them 1980"s to early 1970"s & how far back does NFL Films go, to late 1960"s, how hard can it be to just go back on the film & look?At least those players could get the sacks they had?Robert.
