Default Best "Big Three" from one set

Am wondering who the best Big Threes (HOF-calibre teammate trios) are among the pre-war sets. Here is a pretty good one from my collection. And am thinking 33 Goudey has Ruth/Gehrig/Dickey. Who are the top other ones?

Not in my collection, but Willis/Wagner/Clarke from T206 are noteworthy. So are Collins/Plank/Baker. Can't go wrong with Tinker/Evers/Chance either.

I had said 28As which had an unmatchable lineup of Cobb Speaker Foxx Grove but whether they were all in one set is unlikely I guess.

McGraw, Mathewson and Marquard are three for the Giants T206. I don't know much about pre-war sets minus the T206 and a small bit of Goudey.

I think that the Goudey set does include Grove, Foxx, and Al Simmons.

1933 Goudey has Paul Waner, Pie Traynor and Arky Vaughan. That's a great big three from one team. Of course that same team/set has Lloyd Waner, Freddie Lindstrom and Waite Hoyt, so that's a pretty good "big 4-6"

As if your roster needed more help, don't forget Al Simmons, Mickey Cochrane, and Eddie Collins.

But yes, the challenge is to place them in a single set. I know near-zero about cards of the 20s, but wow, what a lineup on paper!

The 1954 Topps trio of Aaron, Banks, and Kaline aren't bad.

That's a great all-RC team, but am going for actual teammates here.

1887 Chicago Old Judge cards include Cap Anson, King Kelly, and John Clarkson. However, Kelly had been traded to Boston before the season started.

Not exactly kosher as pre-war, but how about from the old Brooklyn Dodgers; Duke Snider, Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese. Not to mention Campy and a few others.

3 hall-of-famers
3 gorgeous cards
3 legendary Tigers (even batted 2-3-4 in the lineup)

1914 and 15 CJ's have Wagner, Clarke, and Carey although Clarke was primarily just a manager at that point in his career.

I forgot Cochrane.

So the Goudey sets should include Grove, Foxx, Cochrane, and Simmons.

I don't think Collins and Speaker were on the same As teams but could be wrong.

In 37 Exhibits, or maybe it's 38, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Dickey and Lazzeri are on one CARD.

I am a Cleveland guy, and was going to mention that group - and should add Joe Jackson - if they had made a T205

Bump it up to 56 and you get Koufax too. (No 55 Campanella)

50s Braves -- Aaron Mathews Spahn
60s Giants -- Mays McCovey Marichal Perry
70s Reds -- Rose Bench Morgan Perez

Here is a good article on teams that were stacked with HOFers. Too bad no baseball card angle was added.

Basketball fans may remember the year the Lakers had Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone, and Gary Payton...with Phil Jackson as coach.

It would be cheating, but I bet some incredible Big Threes could be made from 1940 Play Ball, augmenting the active 1940 players with the special HOF subset they added (Alexander, Johnson, Wagner, Jackson, Mathewson, Bender, etc.).

For instance, my original Big Three of 1935 DS Ott/Terry/Hubbell can get upgraded in 1940 PB to Ott/Hubbell/Mathewson. Williams/Foxx/Speaker isn't a bad Boston trio either.

In the case of the HOF add-ins, they didn't really assign a team, which I suppose opens the door to some additional flexibility. Or, if you are good enough to recognize the uniform in the photo, maybe that pins down the team.
