Default Help with Chico Carrasquel "Card"

Posted By: Jimmy Leiderman

Hi guys,

Would like to know if anyone could give me more information on a Chico Carrasquel promotional card.

The card shows Carrasquel in a White Sox uniform (played there until 1955) endorsing "Alas", a cigarette brand.

Back shows a facsimile autograph and text about the cigarettes.

Size is about 4x6

Thx!

All I can tell you is Chico "continues to smoke Alas (Wings) because they are fresh and flavorful."

is that, according to Marc Okkonen's reference, the Sox wore that uniform only in 1951 (note arm patch).

It seems the cigarettes are Chilean. This from "Cigarettespedia" <a href="http://www.cigarettespedia.com/index.php/Alas_%28chilean_version%29_%28Con_Filtro%29_S-20-S_-_Chile"

While produced in Mexico also, the packs from that country look noticeably different (although maybe not 56 years ago).

Thanks for the detailed info Todd.

I remember finding the card in Venezuela about 15 years ago, so probably the cigs were also sold there.
