Default Toughest cards from different caramel sets

Posted By: Dave F

I picked up a E93 Chance today....had heard it is one of tougher cards in the set to come by...(although overpaid for it).

I'm curious if anyone wants to take stabs at the hardest cards to come by in any of these sets...

Default Toughest cards from different caramel sets

Posted By: Bob

based on my completing these sets, these were the toughest for me:

E90-1- Upp and Shean.
E93- Delehanty.
E94- Bates, Magee or Lobert not taking in to consideration colors.
E96- Herzog horizontal.
E97- Nichols, Kelly, Rossman and Steinfeld spelled correctly.
E98- Coombs and Vaughn not taking in to consideration colors.

Matt-

My understanding is even within these sets there are a few cards that are just harder to obtain..not really because of price but just because of availability.

Bob-
Interesting...I would assume though along with your E90 cards you listed you would still put Duffy, Clarke, etc in there?

Dave- Walsh, Duffy, Speaker, McLean, Wagner throwing were all tough, but for me I got to the end of the set and had to wait many months for Upp and years for Shean. The E90-1 Shean was the toughest card I have ever run across when trying to complete the sets from E90-E99. I know that there are a lot of killers in the E100-107 sets but I didn't (don't) collect those.

Other tough E90-1's -
M. Mitchell, Sweeney (Boston), Stahl, Gibson (rear view),
Lobert, Seigle, Young (Cleveland), Dougherty, Howell (wind up),
Keeler (red portrait), Karger, Donovan, Richie, O'connor & Graham.
The Larry Mclean card although already mentioned is nasty tough
and doesn't get the hype the Shean card does but is rarely ever
seen.

My take on the sets I have completed or nearly so

e93: None - Pastorius was my most difficult, but several examples have shown up in the last year.

e96: Fierce competition on the popular cards (Herzog, Mack), but none stand out as the most difficult.

e97: The ones Bob mentioned plus the obvious Sullivan cards

e98: Coombs, Vaughn and Tenney - no surprises there, but I followed this set very closely for years and I believe Vaughn may be the toughest. Oddly it was my first e98 and was acquired from the esteemed Marquette collection.

e102: The typical four variations, with Doyle (bat) being the one I have seen the least.

e104-1: Lapp, Baker and Strunk; not sure if they are more difficult, but I can't seem to find them.

I would add Connie Mack to the E98 tough list. E93 Chance is also tough in general, but particularly in ex or better.

Very interesting takes on the different cards thus far.
Is there really a more difficult e99 or e100 to find besides all of them?

Jim-I wasn't sure how tough the E93 Chance was...but was happy to get it none the less...hell a chance to show it twice in one day

I thought i've seen info somewhere before...but cant find it doing a search...can anyone take a wild guess at total populations for each series in existance? I would imagine E90's are more plentiful overall than any of the other sets....but I don't even know that for sure.
