Default A Lesson Learned (altered cards being slabbed)

Posted By: Scott T

I recently bought a GAI 1 Bill Dahlen (Brooklyn) card for my ultra low grade T206 collection.

Looking back, I should have caught the problem before sending it to SGC to be crossed over.

At least it was a relatively inexpensive mistake and hopefully I will learn from it.

Scott

As a poor graded card I would almost think that could be considered a mark (MK) and not color added. To me color added denotes deception. This was a kid having fun...ala MK...again, imo....regards

Yes, I would agree with Leon here...
technically the right answer from SGC, but certainly missing the spirit of it all...there's no way that coloring in that B could be thought to improve the card (unless a purple B were some valuable variant of that card), which perhaps the grader doesn;t know, and therefore this is the best answer SGC could give...

but generally, yes, this card has plenty of other opportunities for "improvement practices" to be performed and caught than that B...

thanks for sharing

I just posted this in the June pick up thread, and I realized this card has both types of "color added."

On the front, over left shoulder, "color added" as an alteration (not by me).

On the back, "color added" by some kid having fun (also not me).

Despite my diehard allegiance to SGC, I think they got it wrong here. As Leon noted, that "B" is not intended to deceptively alter the card. In my opinion, it is no different than a stamp on the back of the card or some other ink/pencil writing on the card. It should have been graded an SGC 10.
