It's a shame the corruption that exists in this hobby.

One can only wonder where he got the 36 sticks of gum from??? My guess is from a 90 or 91 Topps wax box.

Possibly, but there are several documented ebay auctions of Topps gum being sold by the 36 count as well. Some even sell the empty box, wrappers and gum all in one lot.

It may have been just the 79 box that I opened, but the gum was brittle and in most packs it was either broken into the pieces or was stuck to the bottom card. However, my results may have not been typical of 79s.

I don't recall the gum being on the bottom.

I still have a few packs unopened...the gum is indeed on the top of the pack and is stuck on the back of the card which is the "bottom card" of the stack of cards (if the cards are taken out of the pack face up)... that was my incoherent meaning of "bottom card". Also, these were 79 OPCs, so they may have been packaged different than 79 Topps.

The gum on each of these "bottom cards" is stuck on the card (in all of the packs I have) and I was not able to safely or quickly remove these pieces of gum (which was my point as to where the ebay seller got his gum from)....some of the pieces of the gum were broken into pieces but still stuck on the back.

I do not typically open wax boxes of any age (this box was part of a larger purchase) so I have no idea on what the best way to safely/quickly remove the gum would be or if this is even typical for cards in wax packs of this age. The one or two cards that I tried to remove the pieces of gum, I either slightly creased the card or caused a small amount of surface wear on the back.

Did you eat the gum? I have such fond memories of Topps gum from my childhood collecting days that I have been tempted to purchase a pack just to relive those memories.

Oh Gawd! If you waited too long to chew the gum it would crack in your mouth like a mosaic. At least when I was chewing it. I think that's why we have so many dentists on the forum -- they saw the future and can now afford very nice cards.

Don't eat the gum!!!!!

I learned the hard way...the old gum just sorta crumbles into powder as you chew and then into this stale tasting mush. Its not good and I had to spit it out.

I know I'm a couple days late but here's your answer - 1989 Topps Baseball Card Set 36 Wax Pack

Jose is right - this could not have been any more blatant. Unreal!

Good call on the 89T WB....The seller has ended his listing(for some reason?) for his faux WB...I noticed he also recently purchased an Ozzie RC, maybe he added it to one of his packs to try to create some legitimacy??

At least a few of his bidders had some fun:
