I wouldn't, but a nicer altered example would go for that or more.

Agreed-- an AUTH with great focus and centering would probably look nicer than 95+% of the examples out there. Incredibly challenging card.

Personally I would not. For somewhere around 2500, or not much more and you could probably get a PSA or SGC 2-3 that hasn't been altered.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll hold off and wait for some more to come around.

Having recently corraled this particular monster, I can tell you to just be patient and get one that you'll truly be happy with. It took me almost a year before I found the one I wanted, passing up many cards that technically graded higher than what I purchased, but severely lacked eye appeal. Just be ready to open your wallet a bit, but the joy of owning a beautiful example of the '51 Mick makes it worth every penny.

I'm trying to be patient, but it's so difficult. I just got my 53' topps mantle and 55 topps clemente and already shopping for more cards, just can't help it.

Default Mantle Rookie

I have a 1951 Bowman Mantle in an SGC 2. It has rounded corners - some hairline creases/wrinkles, it's off-centered and has a print/roller line. Seems like a card that most would avoid, but I love it. ...and all those flaws made it affordable.

I'm sure there are many on this board who feel the same way, myself included. It sounds like we have similar interests as I've added the same cards you mentioned. It took me a while to find the right 51 Mantle but I'm happy I passed on a few. There are enough available in the range you're looking for. You'll find a nice one eventually.
