I spoke with Mr Hunt today and he answered all of my questions and concerns. I will be honoring my bid and would not hesitate to bid in future auctions.

thaks for your thoughts and opinions

Sounds like the reserve got lowered when they couldn't move it to the floor and the consignor said sell after the fact IMHO. Who are they trying to fool? An error? Give me a break.

Hunt is a class operation, they are not going to pull anything shady. If you bid on the lot, there was no reserve, and you were the high bidder, I would think you are obligated to pay. The key to this is to find someone who was at the auction when the lot was sold. If they called pass when the lot came up then you have a point. If they hammered the lot as sold with your bid being high than you won the lot and should pay.

One thing I have learned over the last few years is that this message board has an extremely huge influence in the hobby. If you post on here an honest, legit issue/problem with a specific auction house, chances are really good that they will resolve the problem.

putting in a call to David Hunt. I have no doubt that he will explain or resolve the problem. I have always known him to be a reasonable (ok nice person and I think he runs his business in a professional manner.......

Hunt Auctions has always been a little short on the technology part but they (IMHO) are very long on integrity. If/when they provide an explanation I would believe it.

I think it's interesting that as I type this there have been only six posts in the 10 hours since this thread was started. I wonder what the response would have been had the auction house been Mastro instead of Hunt?

Rob - That's a good point. Some auction houses specialize in cards, some in memorabilia, some in game used stuff, etc,... Hunt specializes more in memorabilia.

I think the "Did Not Sell" message does give you some leverage in your argument, but I would speak to the auction house and work something out. If you want the card but just don't have the money right now, they may agree to a layaway plan. Talk it out, there is certainly a resolution.

I also have had only fantastic experiences from them - especially their customer services. I once had to return a lot because it wasn't described accurately, and they took it back with barely a blink of the eye. They are a class company and I am sure they will make this right if you opt to not take the lot.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I have had horrible experiences with the customer service at Huggins and Scotts auction company.

On one occasion I put in a proxy bid in Hunts and at the end of the auction it said DNS. Turns out that my proxy was under their hidden reserve. I was offered the item at their reserve.

On another occasion I put in a proxy bid and at the end of the auction it said DNS. My bid was a lot higher than what I thought would be the reserve so I called them and they said that the website was not completely up to date and it would take about a day. They did tell me that I had won the item and it was below my max.

Their customer service was real good the only time I had an issue.

Good luck.

If the Hunt website was in error and you decided to do something different with the money then they shouldn't hold you liable for buying it. That seems like common sense.....However, sometimes a company will try to maintain their position even when it's not strong legally....Since I don't know the exact situation, with respect to what their website said, it's hard to say for sure....But if it said it didn't sell (DNS) then it didn't sell.....My guess is it will get worked out satisfactorily. best regards
