In an effort to consolidate the current Mastro/REA threads, which are filled with gripes about Mastro's inefficient bidding system, I thought we should have a thread just for posting your pickups. Plus, this gives me another chance to show off my Plank -- and Steve another chance to show off his Weaver!

This takes my personal count of T206 Demmitt, St. Louis, cards to 3 and my bank account to 0, so one will be shipped off to an eBay 10 day auction tonight (seller: am76).

Aargh Jeff,

I knew it was you who grabbed the orange borders! I had been sitting with $2496 (or so) bid for so long, I actually thought I might get it

Good for you, I thought it was a steal.

Sorry, Daniel. I was the underbidder on the Plows Cobb...was about to pull the trigger to get it...literally about to press the button...and I just wasn't feeling it for some reason. And I made a decision a few months back to change my collection around...get rid of the stuff that didn't totally excite me...and while the Plows Cobb excited me...it didn't excite me enough...so I grabbed the Orange borders. REA for today will be interesting as well.

Quan, I almost bit on that one as well - and then started thinking about my E102 and E101 Cobbs with the same front. Believe me, there was a time when I first received the catalog that I strongly thought about grabbing the E92 and T216 Cobbs...

Nice pickups everybody. I came in 2nd place for the Speaker Novelty Cutlery & Johnson PC796. I have some serious bidders remorse for not trying harder to win, but I was at work & got a little side tracked. The PC796 is especially bugging me today.

for the kind words and thanks to you Jeff for laying off the Croft's Cobb . The Orange Border Cobb was on my list as well but I could only get one...I think you got an excellent price on it . Does anyone know who won the Kotton Cobb ?

I picked up a little of everything.

I liked the Speaker because I thought it was great value for the money. I hope to assemble a top 200 sportscard set, although I doubt that I will ever buy the Wagner.

I picked up this T201 because I think the set is undervalued, especially the high grade examples.

I bought this set for a client who is building a HOF set and needs the Negro League HOFs. I haven't seen to many of these and was very pleased with the pickup.

This card fits into my Top 200 Sportscard Set and I think the price was great. It is one of my favorite images of all time.

This is a high grade rookie card of one of my all time favorite HOFs. I couldn't pass it up.

All in all I was pleased, although I would have liked to pick up a few of the rare individual Negro League cards.

I forgot to add this Faber. I thought the price was good for a high grade example.

Hey David-
Is there a new "Top 200" list, or do you have your own?

I like that E107 Joss, especially for the price. So many nice cards...the Rose doesn't seem to go out of style.

Well i won this Cobb and some unopened 70's stuff. Sometimes you cant beat opening packs from your childhood. Rainy day stuff.
Al,
Nice pickup on the Mantle. I was the underbidder. Would have gone higher but was at a party. Great price for a nice example i thought.

No direct pickups unfortunately, but I'm hoping for some second-hand pickups.

If a board member is the winner of Lot 29 [Extraordinary Collection 1886-1889 N172 Old Judge Tobacco Cards (403 cards)] in the REA auction, I am interested in several cards.

I had quite the productive weekend acquiring the e90-3 Evers, Gandil and Walsh from the Mastro lot as well as the Lajoie and Chance from Bob's e94 REA cabal. My only regret is not going a bit higher for the Old Put Wagner. I think that was a good deal and congrats to whoever won it. I did manage to knock this guy off my want list.

I definitely splurged a bit:

I have wanted this Cobb ever since I was a child playing with the reprint sets. I can't believe I was able to buy one in high grade.

The Mathewson is impossible to find in high grade, but I think this one has great eye appeal and for more than $2,500 less than the 30 that went in the Mastro auction I couldn't pass it up.

I picked up this lot of Colgan's Chip proof cards because I have never owned proofs and I really like thc concept. I bid aggressively on the Cobb proof in Mastro, but it seemed liked the high bidder wasn't going to be denied on that one.

Another addition to my top 200 sportscard set.

Scott, that's about as nice of a PSA 2 Cobb 227 you could ever hope to get.

Joe, I'll be circling around you on that Chase....

David, that Cobb is spectacular. Who's that dork on the bottom of your post, however?

I agree... that Matty has tremendous eye appeal for the grade.

Great pickup!

And the Colgans Proofs are very cool.
I almost picked up a nice one on eBay... but someone who shall remain nameless swooped in and took it. Thats alright though... I got him back... I took the last dinner roll at a get together

I woke up this morning fully expecting to be outbid on this. My high bid held for 10 hours. I think I got a bargain at $1200 plus juice...
