Default Tons of Pins or Buttons?? Baseball / Football / Others

Posted By: Shawn

Picked up this lot of buttons... I do not know much about buttons and these are the first ones I have ever purchased. I am guessing there is not much value here due to the condition, but I thought they were pretty neat. Something tells me I would have liked the person who collected these: Baseball, Football, Motorcycles, Airplanes, FISHING, and Fire Trucks... My kind of stuff!

Any info or thougths on these is much appreciated, like I say this is a new area of collecting for me.

Sorry about the huge scans, but man these things are hard to scan!

You're right that the condition makes these not worth a whole lot. The most intriguing pin in this little collection to me is that "Boost the city League" pinback. Very cool and if you can identify the city could be worth much more. As is, the Indian motorcycle pin may very well be the most valuable in the lot.

Thanks Dan,

As to the "Boost" pin, I do not think I will be able to figure out what city it is from. I think my best chance is if someone just outright knows. The back of the pin has the "Whitehead & Hoag Co." paper insert as does many of the others, but no other info to help with identifying the city.

Shawn

Perhaps one clue on the "City League" pin may be that is was a city in New York being that the fishing license and the Elmira football buttons are from NY???

I also found this tidbit of information... Do you think there is a chance that it could be from this organization??? This was located in Chicago.

"In 1905, Anson cashed his major league shares, in order to settle debts and try one last fling in business. In 1907, his term as clerk completed, he purchased a semipro team, renamed it "Anson's Colts", and built a small ballpark on the south side. The Colts played in a organization called the City League, and also took on independent teams, providing the backdrop for a final enigma."

Default Theodore Roosevelt!!! Progressive Party

Well, I was going through these pins today and something struck me about the one picturing the Moose that states "Progressive"... With a little searching around I quickly realized that it is a Theodore Roosevelt campaign pin from 1912! When he was denied the Republican Presidential nomination he then formed the Progressive Party. He was often referred to as the Bull Moose!!! You never know what you may have just sitting around the house!

Any way, thought I would share.
