Default Is E96 a tough set to complete?

I've completed or come close to finishing most caramel sets and I think e96 is about the easiest caramel set to complete. I finished from 0 to 30 in 6 months in 2001. I didn't find any particular card more difficult than others. Granted that was just prior to the major upswing in interest in caramels the last couple years, so it is likely more difficult now than it was.

If you are looking for an easy set, try the E95's too. I put the set together (average grade of SGC 30) in about 3-4 months from last November of 2005 to March of 2006. E95's are great because it offers cards of Matty, Cobb, Wagner, Plank and Cicotte, among other HOF'ers (Collins, Bender, etc). The biggest challenge will be buying the cards. Since I finished the set this March, current prices would seem to indicate it would cost me 2.5x's what it did to complete the set if I started over again. To give you an idea of what I paid, I purchased the Cobb raw for $600 (graded to an SGC 30), a Wagner SGC 20 for $1000, a Plank SGC 30 for $400, a Cicotte raw for $125 (graded to a SGC 20) and the Matty SGC 10 for $100.

Recently, I've seen a Cobb SGC 10 for $1085 (Leon's site), a Wagner SGC 20 for $1850 (Hofstra Show), A Matty PSA 2 for $1500 (eBay), and a Plank SGC 10 for $400 (eBay) and $375 (private sale of my duplicate).

I put together an E96 set between 1999-2002. I found no single card tougher than any other. Only two cards set me back more than $100. Mack @ 160 and Lajoie at 110. Some cost as little as $10. None of these cards were graded. None would grade very high. It was my impression at the time that E95s were a bit easier to find - and more expensive. More big HOFers.

Needless to say, in 2006, closing in on 2007, it's a whole new ball game. Even so, I would guess that E96s are still relatively affordable and available compared to other caramel issues.

E96 traditionally has been considered more scarce but less desirable than its E95 counterpart. E95 boasts Matty, Wags , and Cobb increasing the sets desirabiliy.

I put a Vg-Ex E95 set together 3 years ago for about 5K in no time at all.

I don't really care too much for e95s and e96s. I would like a e95 Plank, Cobb and Wagner though. The players look like they have makeup on in those sets. If you don't want to spend alot of money, the e95 set shouldn't be too hard to get.

I'm trying to get the e93 and e98 right now. Only have 9 e93s and 8 e98s. i guess i have a better shot at the e98s because i already have Mathewson and Young out of the way. I would consider trading my t206 Cobb and cash for a e98 Cobb or Wagner. ! Or trade my t206 Mathewson plus cash for an e93 Mathewson.

I think the E95 is a classic set. A bunch of HOFers, including Wagner and Cobb! The E96 doesn't have the star power that the E95 has, but it's a cool set nonetheless.

As long as we are sharing links to sets, here are the links to my E95 & E96 sets on the SGC Registry:
