I just found an ungraded one with really sharp corners on eBay for $4. It's not even a very nice looking card — just another capless head shot from the Topps in the 1960s. I could buy a whole lot of really great stuff for $3,683 ...

Hi Jim,

Glad to see you've found this forum. I can't understand why more registry members and collectors aren't more active on this board.

It looks like your buddy Scott Susor really hit paydirt on this one. Tell him I said congratulations the next time you take him out for drinks and dinner.

By the way, it's been a long time since we've talked on the phone. How's your campaign coming for weeding out all the bad dealers from the hobby? Any success stories so far?

Actually Jim chimes in here once in a while. When he first got his scanner set up he posted some doozies! We can always use a few more.

Dan,

I had drinks with Scott and his wife once--never dinner. I'm not a fan of your friend as you know but I have never said anything but good things about you. In fact, I think I have invited you out to dinner twice--two more times than I invited Scott out. As you know I am in Houston all the time and just hosted a 70-client group at Western Geco. I still would like to take you out to dinner. No hidden motive and I have no intention of bringing up your friend.

I don't think Scott trims cards. I think he buys a lot of stuff raw and gets a lot of bad stuff. I have read your friend's posts. Although I think he is off base here I think rooting out bad dealers is a noble cause. Unfortunately I don't have much to report here.

I actually post frequently on Net54. Mostly on prewar board but on this board more than you think....and I agree that this is vastly superior to CU.

Regards,

Jim

Jim,

Yes, you are correct. You did indeed invite me twice for dinner and the timing on each invite couldn't have been worse. The first time I was on my way out of town to attend my mother's funeral and the second time, nine months later, I was heading out of town to attend my father's funeral - no joke.

My new e-mail address is dan_markel@sbcglobal.net

Drop me a line.

Give this board some time. It already is as interesting as 98% of the threads on the CU boards. I'll be interested to see if the seller snaps up the current PSA 8 of the same card.

The next '67 Roggenburk PSA 9 sold on eBay sold for over $1,100 less than the prior one for a mere $2,424.

I have no issue whatsoever with the way folks collect...be it graded, ungraded, registry, non-registry.....it's all good in my book. That being said it would seem like the pop report/value issues would be such that this sector could be the first to take a dramatic hit in a down economy? Also, ever looming is the fact there are still some hoards of 50's-70's unopened cases out there. (think Frisch -rip).....

I think the post war side doesn't have as many regulars because it was only started a year or so ago...while this board has been known for vintage for 8+ yrs....time will tell....One thing is for sure though....if you put your name by a post you won't get censored for talking about a grading company or auction house...(mine included)....

regards

I thought this was a new thread until I noticed I'd posted in it a year ago.
Still, what is the deal with Roggenburk? Mine's diamond cut. Are they difficult to find with tight centering? My 2007 Standard Cat doesn't reflect that.

How strong is the registry pull? How about $13k worth.

Thats the tricky part of dealing with low population
cards. With, say something pre-war, it's unlikely
that we'll see a number of "10's" show up on PSA for
any given card.
But for a '73 Topps Rose, with unopen cases and packs
still out there, I would be hesitant to dump alot of money
on something like that.
