That is one nice looking Ryan rookie for being a Venezuelan. Not sure I have seen one any nicer than that one. I can see why you are stoked! That is a major score. Congrats!

Nice Ryan RC card....my find is not quite as rare as a Venezuelan, but a tough to find (for me) MB card. Bought an inexpensive junk lot of 68s that had some 1st/2nd series cards pictured, and found this and 8 other MB cards embedded within the lot(none pictured in the auction's scans). Ironically, this Brinkman was the nicest card in the lot. Now up to 63/77 with the MB BB set and 25/33 on the FB set just by pulling cards from random lots I have purchased.

Beautiful Ryan rookie! When you hinted in your prior post, I assumed it was that one.

Default My Weakness For Old Phillies

...midgrade lot fell into my hands....love that 1953 Bowman Color of Richie Ashburn.....so many eye-candies in that set...

...that's Granny Hamner on the left and maybe a rookie card of a young Mel Allen on the right...

Default It's a JoeDfan Christmas in May!!!!!!!

My SGC shipment came back today; full of a pile of Joe DiMaggio stuff I have been saving. The tipping point came when I got the Camp Cooke DiMaggio (a HUGE thanks to T206Jim who made a deal with me for the raw card), and I didn't want to take the chance on something happening to it.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic to get them in hand.
The only problem I have know is that I have too many cards for the case! I have been tinkering around all evening, trying to get them all to line up right.
I have so many DiMaggios, I am thinking I have to kick out either a Babe or Mickey to make everything fit!

mike,

nice phillies and ya know, i never realized how similar the 53 and 54 bowman designs were until i just saw them laid out next to each other. basically they removed the black inner "framing" and just added a sig box to the bottom...

mint,

nice clemente and well deserving of better grade in my opinion! i wish we had more card shows down here...very rarely hear of a decent one anymore in these neck of the woods.

joed,

i always have extra room for your mantle stuff if ya need some free storage!

Default May pickups...

The Lusty Month of May (pardon the Camelot reference...the result of growing up in a musical loving family...fortunately the sports love was there too!) has been good to everyone so far! Some really nice scores. I grabbed a couple of more for my HOF rookie collection, manager division...will get the LaRussa slabbed one of these days...by the way, did anyone follow the PWCC auction for the 57 Herzog PSA 8 last week? It was a gorgeous perfectly centered card, but that thing sold for a relative fortune (almost $150, I think...crazy)..I bought mine last week from Steve Hart - centered enough for me and a beauty in hand.

I swear I am on the verge of picking up an actual BASEBALL card!! In the meantime, here are two Hall of Fame astronomers, Copernicus and Kepler, from Liebig's 1906 series. The pic doesn't do justice to the brilliant coloring.

nice pick ups everyone! hard to address everybody's but from the centered berra rook (which is a toughy), the auto'd monsters (really like the brock), that colorful corn off the cobb!, even the murph rook...applause all around!

even digging the copernicus card! keep posting those odd balls...

worth editing: that 57 herzog is a gem too! classic image.

Jason, those astronomer cards are pretty neat. Do you know French so that you can read them? Not knowing French, it looks like the Copernicus card is saying something about toilets.

In the meantime, I picked up my first Bazooka Mantle, thanks to Marc (pow323). Thanks again Marc!

As any experienced O-Pee-Chee collector can attest, etoile is star! The card is describing a meteor shower ("rain of falling stars").

Just got this monster for my '52 set and I now have entire coaching staff of the '52 Dodgers! Got it for a very nice deal, but the big question is...will it cross to PSA? I will try...

I rarely get excited about a purchase like I am about this one. The writing, to me anyway, makes this a really special card:

Cool shirt, Jason. I like how the facsimile signature is accurate to the original.

Great signed Mantle, Greg!

Cool Venezuelen Mick, Chris!

Hope everyone had a nice, long weekend. Back to the grind...
