Default Sort of OT: Anyone watching Better Call Saul? Card collector character

Like I said, kind of OT but kind of on topic too for this place: anyone been watching season 2 of Better Call Saul? There's been a recurring character with a baseball card collection that gets stolen. He spent 2 episodes obsessing over the condition of his cards and then when he finally got them back, they were just loaded into ratty cardboard boxes that he flipped through like it was a 1991 Topps box set.

They could have at least put some plastic in there. Anyway, thought people might enjoy this season if they had a baseball card related reason to check it out. Touching moment when he refuses to drop the search for his cards because some of them were his dad's.

"Hoboken Squat Cobbler"? No thanks, I'll skip dessert. Not sure I would do that for any baseball card, well maybe a Claxton Zeenut. Too f-in funny

He is supposed to be a great fool, so it makes sense that he doesn't collect pre-war material.

Thought it was interesting his references to the front and back centering of his Mantle card.

Haha I was going to post a thread about this. A 1952 Topps Mantle, a Hank Aaron, and a "tobacco Ty Cobb" card was mentioned.

These first 2 episodes of the new season were hilarious! Love the baseball card dork! I too got a chuckle from the "Willie Mays O-Pee-Chee" line...

Wonder if they'll show the "Squat Cobbler" video footage!?

That's where he kept the "all star lineup"

The only cards you could see the backs of were '87 Topps. I felt proud / sad that I immediately knew the back of a card from a 2 second clip.

I watched an old episode of 'Dream On' last night and Martin Tupper was trying to get a loan from a bank and (for collateral) he told the guy (I'm paraphrasing), "I have a Boog Powell rookie card, in mint condition!!"

Ha ha.

Watched it last night. That scene was hysterical. Odenkirk at his best. Hoboken Squat Cobbler, indeed.

Yea I found it quite odd that they went out of their way for him to mention top loaders, the 52 mantle, many condition issues, uv light, and for the Cobb thing, but then also have the o pee chee thing and the awful prop use of those cards. Guess they wanted to show what was clearly cards, and not the safes that they should be kept in.

Loved it!! I've already fielded a few questions about it from fellow fans of the show. Really diggin' BCS!! If you were a Br-Ba fan, it's a must-watch.
