I believe it is Tommy McCraw, who never did appear on a Hostess card. Like you said, someone there must have changed their mind and decided to go with May.

Thanks; I really haven't done the steps to find out who the Indians player was pictured. I just knew that it wasn't May and the order w/Fisk and Brooks was different as well.

Can you please post a picture when you have an opportunity? Love to see the Garvey proof.

Curt,

Thanks for the picture. You have two (2) '75 Hostess panels? That's awesome. If you do have an opportunity I'd love to see a picture of the panel up close. I think it's cool that it's in the same kind of format and background that mine is on.

Also, you really messed me up by posting that picture. I went to your photobucket to view and I spent a bunch of time looking through all your Garvey stuff. AWESOME collection!

I noticed an Avalon Hill ad w/Brooks pictured. Is that just a magazine ad or something different? I know I don't have this particular ad.

Bob Lemke wrote about these in his blog a few years ago. It shows the complete game which is pretty neat. I never even heard of that show (before my time), but there are some complete episodes on youtube. Would be cool to find the episode with Reese in it if it exists.

I have a version of this game with the Pee Wee and Durocher; there were a couple different editions I think. Adam Warshaw knows a bit more about it all than I do, perhaps he will post.

I might be interested in selling or trading mine as my collecting focus has changed in recent years.

My main line of collecting now is my Topps type run, which covers all sports and non-sports they issued at retail through 1980, and certain NS Topps sets featuring the more well known comic and underground artists of the 60's and early 70's. I've pretty much stopped collecting full sports sets and have been winnowing them a bit the last couple of years. I also collect Topps corporate items to an extent.

I'll try to find it to scan closer. My card room is very cluttered now, as i just moved from a room twice the size in the last year. I can't even get to a lot of the stuff still.

The Robinson is an ad pulled from some sort of magazine, I believe. It was in a lot with some others (Garvey was one I assume and probably the reason I bought the lot).

Full disclosure, most of the Sterling jumbo 1/1 patches and maybe 1-2 other high end cards are not mine and were saved for the scans. The bulk of the stuff in my photo bucket is mine though.

That's cool. I have a few of those, but they're all intact. Kinda makes me want to punch one out for display.

Would you please enlighten me about the heritage or history of the ultra rare 1959 Mickey Mantle Yoo Hoo card, found with and without a half-inch thick white strip at the bottom of the card? Presumably, the white strip was meant for Mick to autograph it, or so I interpreted the space.....

Hope you can, and are willing, to divulge what you know.

Larry, when Brigandi Coin Company of metro NYC decided in about 1987-88 they wanted to enter the fray and sell vintage baseball cards, they took out a full-page advertisement in Baseball Cards Magazine. Glowing as a beacon in the middle of the ad was a 1959 Yoo-Yoo Chocolate Drink Mickey Mantle, with the white strip. I remember it as if it was yesterday. They wanted $2,000 - $2,500, though here I am not clear in my mind. I do recall it was at least 2K, in an era when 2K purchased a gold medal card. The stated condition was Nr Mt / Mt.

That's quite an extraordinary Mick to roll out the red carpet for your coin company to be taken seriously as also a purveyor of choice baseball cards.

Naturally, I was disappointed you did not know the heritage of the white strip. Regardless, thanks for responding, bro.

Best regards, Brian Powell

It really looks strange if you look straight from the front. That's why I tried to take an angle shot. I picked it up off ebay for $50. It looks pretty good along with my other Aaron figures and bobbleheads.

Back in the mid-90s, I bought a VHS set of old commercials. Entertaining and interesting. Nestled in the sports commercials was on original 30-second black 'n white commercial for the Swift's Premium Franks baseball card promotion. Very cool. I looked to see if someone had loaded it up on YOUTUBE, but it wasn't there. --Brian Powell

A year prior to Brigandi, Alan Rosen and I were talking on the phone, and the subject of the Yoo-Hoo Mickey Mantle came up. In his description of the card, I vividly remember him saying it had a small white strip at the bottom. --Brian Powell

in a "Hunchback of Notre Dame" sorta way...

have a complete set w/punched-out players in zip-loc bags (I bought it that way) and IIRC, it includes
the "board" (playing field?) and the original mailing envelope*

David,

Two very cool oddball pieces. I "think" I have an O's placemat, possibly IHOP, and I do have the O's version of that '75 piece. Wonder how many teams they produced on these things.

By the way, I miss your "A year of Lou Brock" thread. Really enjoy viewing all of the single player collection stuff especially players I grew up watching and admiring.

Good guess, but no. Look at his '78 Topps card and see what it would look like trimmed.

Ha! See how when individuals type something sometimes you can't tell kidding or sarcasm.

Correct; it's the Topps match print photo from the '78 Topps #100 card.

David,

If I was as organized as you, or some of the other very organized individuals that have collections, I'd probably do the "YEAR OF THE BIRD". So, I'll likely wait till I have time to organize better and have some type of rhyme or reason to the postings; like you did by year pretty much. Most of my items are Brooks Robinson related, but I do have quite a bit of other Orioles items; mainly memorabilia/display type pieces. Unsure if people on net54baseball would enjoy seeing all of those items, but I guess I'll give it a shot down the road.

I'll have to check out your Milton Bradley item that you picked up. Gotta love complete sheets!

Default Star Wars & Mickey

The James Earl Jones card: Impressive.....most impressive.

The Chewbacca: So, that is his wookie card, right?

Those Mickey cards are very cool. Visually, they are quite interesting.

Love those Star Wars cards. Star Wars was the whole reason that I got into cards, and then Kiss and Grease cards. I was 9 and had a huge crush on Olivia Newton-John

I had every card available, so I thought I'd pick up some 1978 baseball cards since the 1977 Reggie Jackson World Series was still fresh in my head.

Thanks

Correct - he was Wookie of the Year!

Darth Vader and Chewbacca are my two favorite characters, and not just Star Wars. Star Wars cards were also the first cards I really enjoyed buying. Always have been a baseball guy, but in 1977, Star Wars blew me away!

The Mickeys I stumbled upon at a show a few years back and felt they were worthy buys.

Dan,

Nice Yaz patch as well. I think the last time I saw that patch it was ungraded. Cool that's it's a PSA 9!

I'm really surprised that nobody knows this card set.
