You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

I am very sorry to hear of your loss, I lost my mom in August and it was rough. I love to hear that you will always have a special connection to your father through your collection, that is what this hobby is all about. Stay strong.

My condolences to you and your family. 70 years is a good, long life. Do you still have the Ames card? Regardless, you still have the memories.

Everyone, I am so thankful for the well wishes and thoughts. They really are helping during this difficult time. One board member, Fred, sent a nice message and included the following..."I'm not trying to make light of your loss but perhaps you could buy a card "to make you feel better" and that card could be a reminder of what your dad meant to you. I'd make it a really cool card."

One of the only baseball players my pop remembers as a kid was Duke Snider. When I was little, he bought me a 1956 Topps Duke Snider and told me all about him. Several years later, when cardboard gave way to girls, I sold my entire collection, including Duke for a song. When I told my dad about it, he was genuinely hurt. In honor of my dad, I will buy a 1956 Topps Duke Snider. It will be displayed next to a picture of him and with a promise that it will never be sold....ever. Thanks for the awesome suggestion, Fred!

James, Sorry for your loss. It is difficult to lose a father, mine passed last month. As hard as it is, you have to remember the good times. Memories are a great thing. Sounds like you had some great times with you dad, those memories will help during the rough patches.

James---I extend to you my deepest condolences. It is so hard right now; I've been through it. You had a beautiful father-son relationship, and I appreciated your sharing that with us. Your father was a very loving, and deeply considerate and thoughtful Dad to you. May God carry you and your family during this time of grieving. ---Brian Powell

My sincere condolences. Sounds like I owe your Dad a bit of gratitude as well for indirectly supporting my signed T206 addiction nearly ten years ago.

Sorry sir, so happy for you that you got to say goodbye. I never got that opportunity with my own father who dies suddenly at an earlier age while on the job. Keep the good memories close to you.
