Default W9316 Strip card discovery???

Posted By: Jim Manos

I purchased a group of 7 of the 10 W9316 strip cards. Known as the ugly duck of baseball cards. But very RARE cards . I was packing up to send to PSA to get graded and put on there registry and noticed that the #1 card of Bob Veech had vertical writing in similar font that said 1 in a set of 30 cards?? I sent to PSA to get graded yesterday, but was wondering if anyone might know if there are any more than the 10 cards listed?? They are also numbered. Lastly, does anyone know if these came in strips?? The vertical sentence of 1 in a set of 30 is on the #1 card right side which is a larger border?? So would a numbered strip card start #1 on the left and run the strip right instead of #1 being on the right and running numerically to the left?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It might be that the cards were numbered right to left. I have never seen a complete strip of the W9316 cards, but have owned at least one of each of the 10 cards at one time or another. It might be that the other 20 cards are nonbaseball cards which is very common with the 1920 W issues.

Here is a W521 card with the "20 to a Set" on the right side (card #20)

BTW is anyone who edits the Standard Catalog is looking, I believe the card listed as "W519-2-2 #20b Schange" doesnt exist (it is the W521 above, or a W519-2-1).

Mine is on the right side also and say's in a set of 30. Plus Bob Veach is only the #1 card in the W9316 set not aany other. In conclusion, there must be 20 more cards in the W9316 either baseball or non-sport(probably non-sport)?? Neat stuff, I love this board...

Hate to do this on the main forum, but I will send a check for your W9316 #10 Barnes on your site. Now I have 8 of 10. Hopefully Leon doesn't see this. Also thanks for your insight on the W9316. God are they ugly...

Jim- I looked the other way (leon)

Jim

I got those with a bunch of other strips, that all likely came from an estate sale. There were a few odd cards but mostlt W551 and the W9316.

I would bet the person just wrote it on the wrong card.

Maybe I should have ebayed those myself ;-P

But I feel I keep the best stuff in the 3 cobbs and what not so I am ok with it.

Best

James Gallo

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Hello James,

I think I was the underbidder at the estate sale where you picked up those strips. The lot was from the Hatfield PA area right? I was really bummed that I got outbid, but I don't know that much about strip cards so I wasn't sure how high to go. Sounds like you got a steal. It was a very nice lot.

I felt a little better when on the way out I spotted a 19th century football team photo that I ended up winning.

Take care,
Keith
