Default 1953 Willie Mays - How to identify Fake?????

So if anybody could give me some clues on how to identify fake characteristics of a 1953 Willie Mays that'd be awesome. I know it's a common fake card produced so o just wanted to know what to look for.

Thank you

Also the Backside has a "M K" carved by the sides of the card number

This card looks fine. Always check with a loupe to make sure the solid parts should be solid and the dot matrix should be dots. For instance, the black around the "Mays" should be COMPLETELY black type letters etc

Hope this helps...

Edit to put an emphasis on "looks", there's truly no way to tell without having something in hand but what you need to look for is relatively simple...

And if this is coming from the same place as that Mantle don't even bother (even if this is good) just lose the guys number because it seems someone is intentionally trying to deceive if that is the case...

The fact that it is off center makes it a little difficult to tell, but there is a possibility it is either trimmed or miscut on the left side. The edge looks a little uneven.

This is a different guy from the mantle. I just passed on the mantle. I picked up this Mays from a client for nothing. Was a dodger fan and didn't want any giants stuff of course. The mays looks fine under a loupe. Print pattern and solid ink areas check out. It's not trimmed but I think it's a miscut. Thanks for the help guys

I need friends like yours. No one has ever given me a 1953 Mays (even a fake one) for free!

Cheers,
Patrick

Just to clarify ... I wasn't saying this one was fake. I was saying no one even gives me cards for free ... regardless of whether they're fake or not.

Cheers,
Patrick

When i was working on my 1953 set in the mid1980's there were a lot of well known collectors and dealers who said the Mays and Mantle were faked.I spoke to dealers and SCD also wrote about it. Yes-even in 1983. Sorry, I can not help you with what to look for. After getting my Mantle and Mays, i sent them out many years later and came back with "grades". Anyway-yes-there was a lot of chatter in the mid to late 1980's about these cards.

Do you happen to recall the issue of SCD that addressed possible counterfeiting of 1953 Topps? I had a subscription in the '80's, but don't remember reading any references to it. Was it in 1983?

Volod-
My 1983 was a guess about what yea the article was was. I bought my Mays at the Atlantic City National. I started to get SCD in 1983. So it was sometime between. Sorry I can not pin it down. I remember it also talking about 1951 or 1952 Bowman Mantle and/or Mays being often counterfeited. Sorry I can not do better.--Tom
