Default To be graded or not to be graded that is the question

I have never had a card graded in my life and can barely tell the difference between a 7 and a 9.
So , i would like to know if my 1972 star cards should be graded or kept raw. What would this Pete grade, if below an 8 i will keep them raw.

Thanks

Looks around a 7 or an 8 to me, but you really need a large blown up scan to see the differences in hi-grade cards.

Default Bigger scans...

Thanks Owen. Here is a scan of a few of the cards.... it doesn't appear they show up any better this way though.

Bottom edge looks a little rough cut, I think they downgrade for that. Top left corner looks a little worn too. Should make an easy 7, possibly 7.5 or 8 if you're lucky.

~Owen

EDIT: The Ted W, looks nice, but I think I see some ink (possibly a print defect) around the top.

The Carew and Bench are both too off-center to come back with a straight nine. The Rose top right corner looks dinged, probably keeping it as a 7 or 7.5 . The Williams is really nice. I think that's the best of the four.

I'm going to be a bit of a downer and tell you the Rose might 7, but might be a 6. In the enlarged scan there's maybe one corner that's perfectly sharp. Sorry.

Thanks for the feedback guys... i was hoping for some 8s but i guess i will keep them all raw. I agree with williams being the best of the group and i didnt see all the little flaws until i started blowing up the scans.

Default Grading cards

I am far from an expert, but I believe any 70's cards of star players I would have graded and not worry about it if they could grade a 6 or better. If you are going to sell them that is one thing, if your keeping them then they are protected against any further damage and grading will only go up.

Just got the report on these. I didnt grade the Carew or Rose but the Bench got a 7 and Williams an 8 with no qualifiers.

I was excited about it. I think some of the surface imperfections on the Williams was scanner related, it really looks better than that in hand.
