Default 1977 Hostess Twinkies Checklist - Now updated

For decades I have been trying to put together a definitive checklist for 1977 Hostess "Twinkies" cards based on their issued format. Unlike the previous two years when 60 cards were issued, Hostess decided to make all 150 cards available in single card panels with various products. Because of the different product sizes the panels were markedly different. To make things more confusing, some cards were issued in multiple products.

To date I have authoritatively confirmed five different variations, but a sixth group likely exists. I just need to find someone who has either an uncut sheet or at least uncut cards from this group:

I have cards numbered from 118-150 that most definitely have black bars so are 100% Twinkies cards. But all of mine have been trimmed down to about 1/2 inch around their border so I don't know what they looked like in their original form.

They are not cupcake cards so don't go there. Those are easy to define on their own, plus they only number to 135. They are not the wide panel cards with flaps because those cards would not have a visible black bar on these cards.

I have 23 of the possible 33, although it's likely the numbering doesn't start at 118 and there may be more.

If anyone has any input or have Twinkies cards numbered higher than 118 please let me know and I can finally put this checklist to bed.

Here is what I have so far. I've listed the five confirmed types for the set and listed the players included in that series. I've also included a cross reference to show which versions each player appears in since some appear in two.

As I said I'm still waiting for some confirmation on cards numbered 118-150 that don't fit into the confirmed series.

The 77 Twinkies cards are supposed to be numbered from 1-30 and 111-150. I have the following Twinkies (not cupcake) cards above #118: 123, 133, 134, 142 , and 143. These 6 cards all have the typical product staining and a very small slice of the black bar beneath the stats. I may have more, but I only included on this list cards with both the typical product staining and the slice of the black bar....I have others that have typical product staining and I suspect are Twinkies.

Would you be able to post scans of each of the different types you mention below?

I've heard that numbering for the Type 1 cards (111-150) and it would make sense, but I've never seen uncut versions of the cards save for a single proof version on ebay. I'm still hoping to see either a large collection of those numbers or (even better) an uncut sheet so I can confirm.

That numbering for 1-30 is dead wrong from uncut sheets I can confirm they go to 60 with skip numbering on the 9's and 0's cards.

I have most of the cards from that run with a tiny hint of the black bar. I have 118, 119, 120,121, 124, 125, 126, 127, 128, 129, 130, 132, 133, 134, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, 144, 146, 148 and 149. but no uncut ones. Until then I can't be certain.

These two are obviously trimmed down too far to see the black bar, but the staining is the same as the others in the same number range which have the black bars(barely). These measure up the same as a normal Hostess cards and the other cards in this number range with the black bar at 2 1/4 wide by 3 1/4 high.

After further forensic work I am now comfortable with saying there are six confirmed types of Hostess "Twinkies" cards. The sixth one has been added to the list above.

I've done this through study of the product and staining on the cards. I'm surprised Type 6 cards are as rare as they are as they would have been issued with individual Ho-Ho cakes. That seemed to be a staple product for Hostess then.

Nevertheless, the sizing and staining match up. So that's where we are.

I don't think it was actually a single pack. If I remember them right they came is packs of 2 or 3.

"Single pack" means single serving. All the Hostess individual packs contained two items.

With exceptions of course. There was the occasional special offer when they had three. Not all that uncommon for some stuff but never for others.

And of course - and yes, it's too late for the cards - chocodiles, which were a pack of one.

Do you have a scan of a 1977 Hostess Twinkies type 6 HoHos for reference?

I'm looking for a Aurelio Rodriguez #120 type 6 HoHos.
