I seem to be in a Nascar nation and nearly void of old cardboard. Any of you from the area or know a collector or dealer in Charlotte?

I know it's been years, but has anyone heard from Jim Pruitt? He was the only dealer I knew from the Charlotte area (would set up at the old Ft. Washington shows, The National, etc.)

No shops that I know if but the metrolina show occasionally has some vintage material. The victory Cobb in the last huggins auction was sold there for the princely sum of $1k last summer. Picked up a few nice cards there a couple of weeks ago.

Agreed that the Metrolina is worth a visit. I believe it is a four time a year event.

I stopped going to metrolina when I realized that they all had price guides too, and were insulted if you offered less than mint for their beaters. But this was some time during the Reagan administration; as noted, things are different now.

It's been a very long time since I saw a show advertised in Charlotte, other than those regularly featured in SCD, and they're mainly loaded with 3 week old Nascar crap. Not that there's anything wrong with that ... (There were regular shows at the Grady Cole Center, and at the Convention Center out on Independence, but these disappeared about when the porkpie hat went out of fashion.)

And I haven't seen or heard anything about Jim Pruitt (who had the greatest business logo ever, featuring the Allen & Ginter Kelly.) Hope he's ok.

So I hang around here, the closest thing to a collector's community available. What do you collect?

Bob

I have attended the shows held at the Metrolina probably a half dozen times in the last couple of years. There is always quality vintage material, but the regular dealers stay in line pricewise with SMR, etc. You may get a break if buying in quantity. I did get a good deal from one on t-206s last fall. Occasionally though, there is a dealer that has quality vintage material at a good price. So, it is hit and miss from show to show.

There is not much that I know of. I moved down here from DC about a year ago and have since been on a mission to find some vintage dealers / collectors. There is one guy in Matthews, NC at AAA Collectibles who is slowly but surely selling an original T206 collection in mid-grade on consignment via ebay (and only ebay) and has some 50s-60s issues, but he's really more into new stuff and autos. Otherwise I haven't found anyone with any of the pre-war stuff that I collect.

Well, seems like you guys are in the same boat as me. Metrolina and web. I agree that Metrolina holds very few good deals and is crawling with the same guys and mostly a lot of Nascar fans. My thought was that I'd setup an old fashioned trade night for dead ball era collectors. I have done this in the past when I lived in VA and it was just some guys talking about good deals and bad deals and occasionaly make a trade. If anyone is interested I don't mind putting some effort into setting something up. You can email me at h8ful21@yahoo.com.
