Thanks, John! I didn't expect to like the new SGC holders, but those cards look pretty good in there. None of them have any major issues, despite the technical grades. I have always felt SGC was consistent, but they seem to have tightened things up even more.

Because it's otherwise an 8, and PSA cuts those off at no worse 70/30. So apparently they did not judge the T/B centering on that card to be at least that good - looks like maybe 25/75 to me. I will agree it doesn't look bad at all, but the centering standards above about a PSA 6 just get tougher and tougher...which I suppose is the point.

I've already posted this card in another thread on the main board, but since it's a postwar May pickup, I'll post it again here. I'm just excited to finally add one to my collection, so I'll take every chance I get to show it off

I have always loved this 1977 Burger King card, because unlike the airbrushed abomination in the regular Topps set, this one actually shows Reggie decked out in pinstripes...

I got a very good price on a clean 1948 Swell Jackie Robinson. Price was borderline too good to be true. Any opinions on it? Paper feels right to me front and back.

eBay mailday. I already had one of these, but this one is nice and near minty. Has rough cuts on both edges, but they don’t bother me...

Rough cuts like htat don't bother me either.. almost makes the card have a rawer, fresher feel.

I bought this one 2 months ago. Here it is in a new SGC slab.

It got the A because someone used a Sharpie on the border beside the spot with the missing paper.

That's too bad, Ben, but it's still a very nice card that looks great in that SGC slab.

I bought it knowing it would only grade Authentic. I just wanted it protected in a SGC slab being my most valuable card by far.

I couldn't remember in your original post if you told me/knew about the sharpie mark?

I was hoping you weren't aware of it and was rather disappointed with the grade so I was going to offer to take it off your hands for about half of what you paid for it to help alleviate your anger.

The final piece of the Topps/Bowman run. In hindsight I would have done a few purchases differently, and I suppose I still could switch some out, but I'm pleased to have made it to the end.

..I've always like that Boston Braves Torgeson pose. Centering is a real bear for these three issues but I am content ; ......well,somewhat content, anyway.

I’ve been considering putting together a mid grade 1955 Topps set, but that’s the one card that might put it out of my reach. Great looking card!

I've always gotten a kick out of that card since the 1st day I seen it. Although I know it is just the pose/pic, to me, he looks afraid/scared up there.

Very nice card, btw. Like quite a few 52 Topps cards, many are very difficult to find centered.

Congrats on a great P/U.

Added my fourth different Jackie. Already had 1948 Sport Thrills, 1954 Topps, and 1956 Topps.

Thank you! Same here! Hard to be objective about Jackie cards, but now that I have it I have to say it's his most attractive card! I also love the 1949 Bowman but any version I'd ever own wouldn't look too nice.

I understand. The coloring on those '55s is pretty hard to beat.

Default May Pick-Up Thread

An odd combo of LCS and antique store pickups this week. The T206 belongs in the prewar forum, but I’m being lazy, since I mostly post here. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Nice card, Jason. I got rid of a '55 Jackie earlier this year - it was a BVG 4.5 - centered nicely, but corners were rougher for that grade than I think either PSA or SGC would have allowed. I don't regret selling it, but will definitely be looking to pickup another one in better shape at some point. One of the iconic cards of the 50's for sure. Jackie and that blue cap against the yellow background really pops!
