Default Printer mark ?, e90-1

After examining hundreds this past week. This is the only prewar card with the cross hair. Is it a proof or nothing special? thanks in advance, steve f

well any card with Young on it is special.

Not a proof though-I am guessing it has the e90-1 back but it also appears to have been marked by a printer. Very cool card and I am sure some would pay a slight premium but not proof premium.

Default E90-1

I had that same card in a 1 that had those same lines. Think it was close to them on the sheet.

I have owned a few E90-1 Youngs with those type cross hairs on them. Fairly common for that card. I think they are just printers marks.

Steve--They are printer's marks. The printer marks where the sheet has to be fed into the press in order to achieve accurate registration, the layering of multiple color. When the registration is off, the image has a fuzzy look to it, something all of us have seen on cards. The registration on your Wagner is very accurate.

And, since I teach printing classes, I think you should donate the card to me and I'll use it at the university to demonstrate an older form of registration for my students!

Cheers, Mike

Par for the course... Anyway, appreciate all the help.
